  • Snapmaker doesn’t have the colors I want. (Which colors should we add?)
  • I find cheaper filament with the same or better quality elsewhere. (Let us know where!)

I typically print in black ABS or black PLA. I get the PLA from Elegoo’s store for $13.00 a roll or from MatterHackers for $15.00 a roll if I need more colors. I get my ABS from MatterHackers for $15.00 a roll. I use these websites instead of Snapmaker not because the quality is exceptionally higher, but because I can get my material in bulk. To get the price I listed, the minumum order on Elegoo is 10 rolls, and the minimum on MatterHackers is 12. If it’s not just standard PLA or ABS, I use 3DXTech for glass and carbon fiber filled filaments.

I usually just go to Amazon (astounding, I know) and can usually find a good quality PLA for $10-$12/kg with free shipping. Although my main plastic of choice is PETG, which I can usually get any color for $15-$17/kg again with free shipping, so it’s no real comparison.

Even when I’m not going for the cheapest, most of the time unless it’s some fancy silk, colour change, glow, or other specialty filament, it’s right around the $20 area.

You don’t have enough choice. I usually need specific colors and then buy by rating. 20€ shipping does the rest. But I have already printed a lot with your red and blue petg and was very satisfied. Also in my last contribution to the pet and passion event.

I buy eSun filament from Amazon. It’s cheap, prints easy and generally arrives within 24h. I do not have enough space to store a big bulk order.

I had 3 rolls of Snapmaker filament that I got for free when I purchased my A350 (1-PLA, 2-PETG), and to date they are the worst filament I have ever used. Not going to lie, even for free, I would probably never use them again. Buying them and then still having to pay and wait for shipping? No way. I can go to Amazon, pay the same price for much higher quality Overture and Polymaker filaments, with free shipping, and have it at my door tomorrow morning. There is just 0 benefit to purchasing any project materials from Snapmaker.

  1. No quickfix kit (bimetal heatbreak + adapter) was released for the J1 original clogging extruders.
  2. Poorly lubed garbage linnear rails on the J1.
  3. Don’t trust/want to support the brand.

None of the above: I received Snapmaker PLA and Snapmaker breakaway PLA as samples with some ordered products. In both cases the quality was underwhelming. I prefer to buy brand products that have a consistent quality like Fillamentum, FormFutura or Prusa.

ive been using matterhacker build series, esun and sunlu. my a350 was the first printer i ever used, so i learned through issues. it took a long time to get prints that were acceptable. biggest problem was bed adhesion and layering. once i tried other filaments i never went back. the breakaway pla was especially disappointing in actual usage with other materials.

ive learned a lot and would probably do better with them now. but with the learning curve and time used for builds i need consistent results as expected.

the other item that is involved in my choices is bed temp. for me abs is at 100 degrees. even fully enclosed this takes a lot of time to reach and is hard to maintain. having more power with the heat bed would allow for more choices and a higher reliability.

I mostly use extrudr filament, its produced locally in Austria and the quality and colours are outstanding.

I usually use Prusament, the Galaxy Black and Galaxy Silver produce the best surface finishes I’ve ever seen from any brand of PLA. I have no real issues with Snapmaker filament, I’m just accustomed to using Prusa as I’ve used them for many years and really like the surface finish. My limited experience with Snapmaker filament is that it’s ok, but I’ve never felt compelled to make the switch to use it on a regular basis.

I buy from a Spanis manufacturer in bulk 10 or 12 kg at €10,00/kg free shipping.

I don’t print enough nor have enough storage to justify buyuing in bulk. With Amazon I can get a single roll next day and sometimes even same day with free delivery so the shipping is the real killer.

In general I’ve never had any issues printing with the Snapmaker filiment I’ve used. My original unit was a gift and my wife bought a bunch of PLA and PETG rolls so I had something to print with, plus the roll of black the unit came with. But I live in a very dry environment (35% is a humid day) and at a relatively high elevation (7100 ft) so moisture getting into the plastic isn’t as much of an issue for me.

Here’s another reason, this is a fresh roll, just cut the plastic, and it’s shattered to pieces.

Yeah, this is also my experience with my last 3 black pla roles. Broken the first meters. But it is just outside and inside all is fine. :man_shrugging:t3:

Likely becomes brittle during transit as the outside coils experience temp fluctuations more than the center. Which might pull the polymer chains apart.

I print with enhanced versions of typical filament that are either more durable (e.g. Elegoo Rapid PLA+) or print considerably faster (e.g. Elegoo Rapid PETG) than the Snapmaker filaments at about half the cost. The color options are limited with Snapmaker filament but that’s not as big of a deal.

Most of my printing is for production. Not only do I need reliably high quality materials, but I need to know that I can come back 2 weeks or 2 years later and purchase the exact same filament again and again. Almost all of my materials come from companies where their sole business is filament production. I have absolutely zero interest in purchasing rebranded filament of unknown origin from a printer manufacturer.

Convenience. I can buy it locally and pick up same day.

Option: I have more filament than I can use in a year.
