Mark Forum Read

Hurrah! Thanks for that, solved.

I don’t know why mine was unset if everyone else’s was set by default.

nice, happy to help

Meh.

“Dismiss All” didn’t dismiss everything (I expected it to mark every post on the whole forum read), and then it disappeared again (despite the “link to the filtered list” option still being ticked) and clicking Topics no longer producing an unfiltered list.

I’ve removed the “solved”.

Why is there a message “This topic will close 2 days after the last reply”? I don’t regard that as helpful in a technical forum – the discussion could appropriately go on for ages, with breaks.

I think that notice is becaused this topic was marked “Solved”.

I googled around some discussions about "Dismiss All"feature on the Discoure.
You’re right that it is not exactly equal to “marking it as read”.
There are two typical senarios:

  • In the notifications menu: It clears all unread notification badges (the red dot) in one go, resetting it to zero. This essentially marks all notifications as read. The notification history remains intact. It just no longer highlights them as new.

  • In the “latest” or “Unread” topics list: It removes all topics in the current list from your latest/unread view, so they no longer appear as needing attention. However, this does not count as “read”. The system doesn’t log that you’ve actually read those posts, and it won’t affect your “reading progress” statistics.

Thanks. Perhaps this really is solved then. All forum software has it’s quirks, just depends which you’re used to (Xenforo is my preference).

Yes, the closure notice has gone away now (that wasn’t immediate when I removed the solved flag). I think 2 days is a bit short. Basically, it would be wise to make absolutely certain a problem is solved before marking the solution!
