MakerWorld Browser Extension for Snapmaker U1

Some of you may already know my browser extension. If you don´t know it yet you can find all the info on github.

I usually post in official snapmaker Discord but I finally found time to also share this here.

Yes we all know that you can just download the 3mf and import it in snapmaker orca and this works but that way there are still settings that don´t get preserved and even like that errors and problems can appear. While the main reason while people don´t want to use a converter ist, that it is an additional unwanted step in your workflow.

There are already many other converters out there but they all work the same. You either need to manually download the original 3mf to upload it on a different online page to convert, or you need to download a seperate programm on your PC that can convert the 3mf. All converters are forcing you to do additional steps, that take time and make people say “Just import it as 3mf”

This is just a browser extension for chrome/edge/firefox and similar browsers.

Open a MakerWorld model page:

  1. Select the desired print profile.
  2. Select Snapmaker U1 in the printer list to replace the standard Download 3MF button with Convert to Snapmaker U1.
  3. Click Convert to Snapmaker U1.
  4. Open the generated .3mf project in Snapmaker Orca.
  5. Review the project and start printing.

One click on makerworld and you are done. This takes the same amount of time as downloading 3mf and importing it in snapmaker orca, while preserving as much as possible of the original creator´s settings.

If you want you can even enable certain QoL features :

  • Automatically enables Exclude Object to keep Adaptive Bed Mesh and per-object features available.
  • Automatically disables unwanted Brim generated by Snapmaker Orca.
  • Automatically switches Tree Support to Hybrid whenever Adaptive Layer Height is detected.

These adjustments match the workflow many users perform manually after importing MakerWorld projects.

All this is working in Orca and snapmaker Orca.

If this sounds interesting to you and matches your usual workflow, feel free to download and install the browser extension.

Sleek job, not sure if its possible, but would love to see a version that works with Safari?

Hi. Basically this could be easily extended to work on safari too. The only problem is that apple forces me to pay arround 100$ yearly for a dev account to be able to create a fully working safari browser extension. That´s the reason why this isn´t planned in near future.

The only solution I can provide to mac users right now is to download google chrome browser on your mac and use chrome for makerworld and downloading the according 3mf files.

Ouch! Makes sense then, I’ll really have to look into adding a minimal browser that doesn’t harvest my data on the mac

Installed LibreWolf and your extension, works like a charm thanks for sharing this

Thanks for sharing!
Have you considered submitting the project for Snapmaker Innovation Fund?

I‘m not sure this valuable enough to submit.

Several users encountered recently a problem where the Snapmaker U1 button didn´t appear anymore on makerworld, which made it impossible for them to use the converter.
Thanks to some users I was able to identify the problem and find a solution.

With newest version of the converter problems like that should not happen anymore
