Luban 3.12.3 problems

I have just installed the newest Luban software, because when I wanted to CNC engrave, I missed some settings which are described in the video tutorial. Sadly these settings were also not in the new version available.

But now I have some other problems:

  1. When I try to connect to the Snapmaker A250 via Wifi, Luban gets white and I have to kill it. This I can work around with using a USB stick.

  2. I try to make a laser engraving with letters.
After I click on Process, all the Letters I want to engrave are gone.
    What am I doing wrong?
The same happens when I load another image with digits and some circles:
The circles stay, but the digits disapear, and I don’t see anything I can change to make this work:

Thanks in advance
Roger

Ok, after some more tests, I have figured out that this is normal with SVG’s. With importing a PNG everything works as expected.

I’d guess that you left the text in the SVG as text, rather than turning it into paths. Luban only implements a subset of the SVG standard. It doesn’t understand text, but it’s fine with paths that happen to be shaped like letters.

I guess maybe you have to fill the path of the letters or you have to reselect the object in the object list. You have two objects, circles and letters, right?

WRT #1, I noticed the exact same problem with the white screen. I have been having issues where my Windows box won’t find my Snapmaker anymore automatically. If I put it in manually and hit connect, the window goes white. Not sure if they’re related or if Microsoft pushed an update that broke something, but it just started with my update to 3.12.3.

Oh Thank you!!! I have the same problem. Could someone explain in Very simple terms please. I’m very new

Could you explain how to turn text into a path?

It depends on the program you’re using.

If you created the file in Luban, you shouldn’t have to (I hope). The original poster specified he was loading an image, though, which I assume means it was produced externally.

In Inkscape, select the text and use Path -> Object to Path.

Other programs should have something similar.

Sometimes it’s called ‘convert text to curves’
Not sure why there isn’t a standard nomenclature.

I think this is a bug because I am using a mac. I will create an issue on github.

I’m on mac also.

It may be fixable and worth posting on github. But I’ve found it’s pretty common among graphics programs to need to convert the text. It’s so the graphics file can be shared without others having to have the fonts. And it seems because a lot of them handle text differently.

Not to mention the copyright on fonts.

This makes me wonder what the legal implications might be of using a font outside a computer and paper, ie. CNC, laser cutting or 3D printing.

No doubt it’s a deep rabbit hole!

I am having the same issue. Everytime I manually enter my IP for the snapmaker, Luban goes totally white. I am running luban 3.12.3, windows 10 with all the latest patches and updates. Also, my PC cannot find the snapmaker. Oddly enough the snapmaker says it is connected when the screen is white.

thats a valid question to be sure. mostly depends on the source, but adobe for example explicitly states the font is for personal or commercial use.

I think most big development programs like an adobe suite would follow the same rules, but purchasing individual fonts from the internet or something is something you would have to check on.

You can even use an adobe font on your website with a code they give you.

This is exactly the problem I just started having. I can’t use the WiFi connection anymore. I connected my SnapMaker to my PC using a USB cable and it’s been working fine. WiFi was really convenient, but I like being able to print more.

@rkreienbuehl: When you filed the bug, were you talking about the font issue or the connection issue? It sounds like there could be issues with both.

I also get the White screen of death when connecting to the Snapmaker A250 with WiFi. Upgraded to 3.13.0 and the same happens.
Downgraded to 3.11 and it works again.
For now, I use my USB drive to transfer files but it’s hugely inconvenient for my workflow.

Wrt. Luban and text handling - it is extremely frustrating and inconsistent. Some versions simply want to treat the text as a bitmap offering a ‘fill’ & density option but I can’t simply jut get text to work as a vector. Very frustrating when cutting cardstock in luban for simple projects.

I end up designing the SVG in INKscape and converting all text (object to path) then saving the SVG to be used in Luban.

Me to. I have the same Problem mith A350 and Win10

Hi Guys, i’d like to add and draw attention to a potential Luban issue. My machine just did some windows updates and upon rebooting my machine and opening up Luban, i’ve noticed that in the 3D printing G code Generator tab, that everything is missing. I mean, the material list of filaments is missing, the default ‘fast print’, ‘normal print’ and ‘good quality print’ are missing and so are my custom settings. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Thanks in advance.

It sounds like this has happened to others, but not necessarily because of a specific windows update.

Luban is kinda buggy.

First, try to reinstall. Then if that doesn’t help, uninstall then reinstall.

If that doesn’t work, try to install it to a different directory maybe?

I think there was a thread about “blank white screen” on luban which may have additional ways to try to address this if you search the forum

Good luck
