J1 Fan Upgrade advice?

Hi,

Regarding the J1 to J1s upgrade kit, I noticed that some “old” youtube videos showed that the auxillary fan speed is linked to the highest fan speed in the print…

Is this still the case? I sometimes like to print ABS, and dont want to flood the enclosed chamber with cold outside air via the auxillary cooling fan…

I have ordered the upgrade kit, but wouldnt install it if this was the case…

Can you share your experience? Is the aux fan still running while printing abs ect. or can it be turned off?

Vince

Turn it off in your slicer settings?

Is it possible to controll the auxillary fan using the slicer? As i heard, the snapmaker electronic werent prepared for a dedicated auxillary fan, so the auxillary fan always spins at the speed of the highest extruder fan. But i don´t know if that statement is true, because there werent many people talking about it.

For example:

If your left fan is at 50% speed, and your right fan is at 70%, your aux fan will also spinn at 70%…

If i want to print for example ABS, i want my left and right fans to spin but my auxillary fan to be turned off…

So my question to you (if you got the j1s): Can you control the auxillary fan seperately from the left and right fan?

I thought you are talking about the housing fan, aren’t you? It seems I misunderstood?

It is not, the last I checked. Myself and Henry both made fan speed attenuators to reduce the aux fan relative to the part cooling fan.

You may trust those people

I took the whole thing apart some years ago and measured every single wire in it, in preparation to get a Duet board into the printer - and no, it is impossible to control the auxiliary fan separately via software… unless you manage to find a free processor output somewhere on the printer controller and then physically add the corresponding electronic voltage control components and another wire from the printer controller board to the fan (the one that is in the upgrade kit).

Therefore, with the original controller the only option you have is what Wombley mentioned.

Nope, not that I know how. I unplug the aux fan when I print ABS, it’s rather easy and accessible.
