Is it possible to turn off the prime tower

Hallo,

I searched on the forum but couldn’t find anything about it. Is it possible to turn off the prime tower in Luban?
I’m also wondering, maybe is a stupid question, but why the prime tower is necessary when printing with the dual extruder using only two colors.

I’m working with the Artisan.

Thanks

I currently am not sitting in front of my computer, so I cannot give you an answer to the “can I switch it off in Luban” question, although I would assume that somewhere in the expert settings that should be possible.

But what I want to emphasize is that the prime tower in my experience unfortunately is a necessary evil for any print with 2+ colors/materials. The reason is that while color #1 is printed, the idle nozzle(s) ooze a bit of material and loose pressure. The prime tower is used to build up the pressure in that nozzle again when nozzle #1 is going idle and #2 is to come up for printing. I tried with retraction settings and all, and you can get close, but in the end I accepted that I need to waste some material on priming.

Prints that just use one nozzle of course do not need a prime tower, even if you have more nozzles in the printhead.

Also not in front of Luban, but all of what @Hauke said. ^

The prime tower switch is certainly available in Cura, and may be a hidden expert setting in Luban as well. But yeah, I’ve only had a few prints that I was able to get away without using one. Usually it’s best to leave it on.

Looked for it - here is where you can control it in Luban:

Thank you for all the replies. I now understand the purpose of the tower better, and I have finally found the setting to switch it off. The reason for turning off the tower was more a question of time than saving material. But after what you said, it is probably better to let it on.
