How to disassemble tool head with really bad clog

Howdy!

Well I got distracted on a new print job and found this “blob that ate my toolhead”:

Yes, that is white ASA. In retrospect, the cause is I didn’t add more glue to the plate for the second print (first worked fine). For the curious, printing Ultimate Snapmaker U1 Filament Enclosure, Cover and Case (~1.2kg) - Updated Version.

Using the “unload” command is out of the question (blobs in the way). I manually unlocked the toolhead using a 5mm rod, but the blob is also attached to the carriage.

I’m guessing I need to disassemble the toolhead and/or carriage far enough to remove the old tool head, which is probably scrap. Any pointers or instructions on how to proceed? I do have a spare toolhead so saving this one is not a concern.

Thank you,
Roy

Usually, you can remove the majority of the blob by heating the tool head to max temp and waiting a bit to let the blob heat up, then try to pull as much of the blob off as you can.

Thank you!

I set the temp to 300C, but didn’t feel any heat after 10 minutes. Heat. Heat gun! 20 minutes later I have the toolhead removed! That was 15 minutes chipping away on low heat, ran out of patience, 3 minutes of high heat, 2 minutes to unlatch the tool head.

THANK YOU!

As you can see the only visible damage is to the air duct and silicon sock/hotend.

Have a Great Day!
