Filament not loading

There is no jam / clog. The issue, I believe, is that the filament roll is too heavy to pull through. It took me a while to figure out that the ‘failed to load filament’ warnings were because of the heavy roll. 1kg. Nothing heavy really. All I have to do is pull a bit of filament off the roll to loosen it and press ‘resume’. All is good until it somehow gets too heavy again. Is the gearing too weak? Can I make it ‘stronger’ somehow. Is there a setting / screw I can tweak to help this issue please?

There were not many people who reported this so maybe your filament on the spool got tangled?
Even very glitchy filament could cause problems, I guess.
But 2.0 user here..

If you try a alternative spool holder like the original position, does the problem disappear?

I agree with Chris. This sounds like a tangled spool.

Were you careful to keep the filament taut at all times, so that it isn’t getting loose or crossing over itself as it slowly unspools?

Tangle is a rookie mistake. I checked that. No tangles.

Maybe send us some pictures of your environment.

Ok, I don’t see how pictures would help me. But, specifically, what could I take to show you?

How do you mount the roll, how do you use the ptfe tubes. I saw so many bad mountings and you gave no information about that. 1kg is not to heavy for the bearings. But when the role is blocked for rolling or you did mistakes in mounting it, then maybe pictures can help us to help you.

For what it’s worth, there’s no bearings on the J1 filament holder. It’s friction roll. Though it pulls tangentially from the roll, about as good as that gets.

That said, there’s certainly worse sources of friction. Like the default filament bend of 90 degrees into the print head if not using a lid riser or lid off.

If in doubt, you can purchase low friction Teflon slip tape and put a layer around the roll holder. I’ve not had trouble with full rolls though, so not sure.

Did this ever get resolved, I am having the same issue myself at the moment. Does short prints no problem, but anything over an hour gets “unable to load filament” I loosen a little filament off the roll, it prints for a few minutes and gets the error again.I’ve tried everything I can think of, including skipping the ptfe tube and feeding the filament straight into the extruder both on the standard spool holder, and from the dry box (with rollers) that I bought.

Nothing has changed for me. I just can’t figure this out. All of the above suggestions are null. It’s obvious something is off with the left hand extruder as the right hand works perfectly. I have a lid riser too. Gutted at the moment.

If I recall correctly, if you’re sure it may be working and the error is false, you can disable the sensors in the on screen menu and try?

Obvious limitation there though.

Otherwise, have you contacted support@snapmaker.com ? They’re quite helpful.
