Engraving on Plastic

Hi

I want to be able use the laser to engrave a small depth on a piece of plastic and then cut out the outline .

So the letters will only be about 0.030 deep but the plastic is 1/8".

Can I do this on Luban in 1 set up or do I need to run letters than come back to do the outline cut out?

Still learning. Thanks

You can do this in one setup in Luban. Add the text and the outline to the laser workspace and click process. Click on the text and click create toolpath, set the parameters for engraving your plastic, then click on the outline and click create toolpath, setting the parameters for cutting. You can then reorder the toolpaths using the arrows in the toolpath list section, and you should be good to go.

A note with engraving/cutting plastic, make sure you have good ventilation for the machine because the fumes aren’t great for you.

You can’t set a cutting depth with the laser like you can with cnc. It doesn’t work that way.
You can use it to etch or mark or deform the surface. Which might be fine for what you need to do.
Make sure you know what type of plastic you’re trying to cut and do a search for if it is safe to use the laser on. Absolutely do not use the laser on vinyl or pvc no matter how good your ventilation is. It releases nasty stuff.
