DXF for laser engraving and cutting

Hi!

First time using the laser module. I have a DXF file that I have saved from SolidWorks. Some of the lines I want engraved and some of the lines I want cut. However, when I try to select the lines, the whole imported object is selected. Is there a way to split a DXF file in Luban or is there a different way to select the different lines for different operations?
The DXF contains complex shapes, so I can’t really redo it in Luban. I guess saving it as two separate files would work, where one contain the lines for engraving and one contain the lines for cutting. However, to prevent any misalignments when merging the DXFs in Luban I would prefer to have everything in in one file.

I don’t know if this has already been answered, I couldn’t find it anyway. If this has already been answered, please point me in the right direction.

Thanks!

Sadly, Luban is very limited in what it can do. An SVG/DXF imported can only do one operation. You’ll have to do your cut/engrave parts separately. Lightburn is a lot better at this, albeit a tad expensive. In the long run, worth.

Thanks for the info. I tried saving them as two different DXFs, one for cutting and one for engraving. That seemed to work and I can now generate two operations. However, when importing them the centers didn’t line up. So i had to add the original DXF as a template, line up the two separate DXFs and then remove the original DXF again. Maybe not the ideal solution, but it works for now.
