Copy and Mirror not available on dual extruder models

I’m using the Cura profile to slice models for the J1. Whenever I try to use copy or mirror on a single object, it gives me an error stating that Copy and Mirror are not available on dual extruder models.

It’s weird though, because I can copy and mirror the text ‘benchy’ print no problem. It makes me believe that it’s a setting in Cura that’s causing it.

Can anyone provide any insight as to why this is giving me this error?

I’ve only had mine for a day, but from what I’ve seen, the Copy/Mirror is a printer option, not a slicing option. You just slice it as a normal single item, then choose the mode (Copy or Mirror) when you load it up to print.

I thought so as well, but the same printer is working with some prints, but not others. So, I think it’s a print configuration issue.

You have both extruders enabled when you hit the slice button in Cura. Go up to your extruder configuration, go to the second extruder, and uncheck the enable button, then re-slice your print. When you bring that updated gcode over, you will be able to use the copy and mirror modes.

i tried disabling one extruder and resliced the file. It did not work. The device on left moved to the center and rewrote on same line. extruder on right went back to the cleaning pad end extruded onto the pad.

when I wrote in default mode the extruder on left wrote about 20% from left hand side.

It is as if in copy mode the left extruder want to write on the right hand side and is limited to the half way mark.

Hey there Skinner - sounds like you are having some strange issues over there. I started with just running the wizard, completing the calibration, and then selecting a test print - it worked great. From there I started learning about how the printer actually does things - perhaps you could start there and see what happens?

It’s worth noting that you must re-run all the calibration steps after upgrading from the 1.x firmware the printer shipped with to the 2.x firmware it wanted to update to, right after you finished running through the Wizard the first time.

Disabled extruder #2, and it worked great once I re-exported the print. I think my initial problem was that I had specified extruder #2 as the printer, and had disabled #1. When I reversed that, it worked great.

I did all the calibration and printed the little boat.

I redid the calibration after upgrading the firmware as well.

Still do not get it to work. in copy.image mode.

Glad to hear it! I know it shouldn’t make a difference, but I’m guessing it has to do with the initialization gcode if you disable extruder 1 and try to mirror a print for extruder 2.

Similarly, I think it would be great for single extruder prints if we could choose the printhead to use, in the case of having different colors loaded.

+1 to this.
