A new challenge for us - lithophanes

Hi All (@Rainie)

Doug the newbie here annoying you again. I just watched this video about making Lithophanes on a 3D printer watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y63sVpeViXo and the lithophane software mentioned was http://3dp.rocks/lithophane/

keep having fun. In the near future I will have a go at making one of these. Do we have experienced users who have created such masterpieces?

Hi All

I created this lithophane from a friends photo; it was printed using High Quality settings and a model depth of 5mm. You can still see the striation, but not as bad as some of my earlier test versions.
The print was 100x80mm in size and took 6.5hours to print. Big note: you need to print these as a vertically standing object.

The more i read the best way to go is by engraving the lithophane and using Candlestone as the media see http://candlestonegifts.com/

Have fun

What material are you using?
I wonder if you could carve the same thing?
And then laser etch for a Great PEC???

This was printed with a Makerbot PLA filament

Hi All

I have just uploaded my first project to Thingiverse. It is a lithophane with the word Snapmaker see https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2828468 Note I printed the Lithophane with Snapmaker3D using the High Quality setting and using white coloured PLA.

Have fun with this very basic entry to Lithophanes…and remember to shine a light through the Lithophane from the rear of it, or hold it up to a sunny window.

Doug

The same lithophane as shown earlier, is mounted on a window pane with daylight shining through it. Aside from my terrible photography, it looks much better in real life.
