When is the 7 watt laser coming out?

How do I get on the “beta” testing list for the 8w laser module?

The 7-watt laser engraving module is not available now. Because it is somewhat dangerous when the user does not have good security gears.

We are not going to invite testing users for the Laser module so far.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Does the SM enclosure not qualify as good safety?

Good question. When I asked the support for the optical density of the enclosure I received this answer:

The enclosure could filter the laser but it could not be measured with the OD definition. It is recommended to wear safety goggles when using the laser within or without the enclosure.

Well, that’s the question that has never really been answered sufficiently.

A thread on goggles and the enclosure:

If you want to know the OD required for a given laser:

I guess we’re going to find out if the new 7w laser comes with new panels for the enclosure, and a new pair of goggles

They no longer ship with the green goggles. (which some have questioned their appropriateness). They now have amber goggles that are reportedly of a higher OD and should be okay with the new laser.
If anyone has received the amber goggles and wants to report back with any markings or info that came with them, that would be appreciated.

Maybe we can interest https://endurancelasers.com/ in offering something.

Has anyone tried Endurance laser? I talked to them 8 months ago and they were happy to sell me stuff, but I didn’t have confidence that I could get it to work, or it was as strong as they were saying. Am I wrong?

Endurance will sell you the parts but it’s up to you to get it to work. At this point no-one has shown that they’ve figured out how to make the SM talk to and control a 3rd party laser.

@hans01 You could email support or have a look at the trello roadmap.
Any news Kai? @JKC20

Trello says q2 though, and there was no “we’re gonna be a bit late” announcement even though we just finished q3

@nivekmai I emailed support directly related to the roadmap being neglected just a couple days ago, among other gripes. When I get the response I’ll update with what they said.

Q2 was for creating a prototype. Which they may or may not have actually done.
Q4 was always their earliest possible shipping date that they had given on FB. So who knows. I was never optimistic that that date would be met when it was announced back in March.
The new linear rails were promised to be shipping in June/July and we still haven’t seen them be made available.

Think they should hold fire and take a look at the Wainlux L3.
Using twin 10W beams, optical auto focusing (18mins 10s in vid), a square-ish beam rather than elliptical.

This is the kind of laser head I wanted, and am now considering starting a community project for if snapmaker don’t fancy the challenge.
Especially considering if the current green safety specs and enclosure 2.0 possibly aren’t sufficient anyway then it’s time to consider taking the serious step of actual research for safety and the proverbial upgrade. As you’ll drop a hundred just on safety upgrades then another two hundred dollars for an all singing all dancing mega-laser-head would probably be a good “upgrade path” for those who wanted to get serious, or available as a bundle with the machine. [Price the old ones to go, i.e. free 200mw with machine, 1600mw for +40, 10000mw +200]

If you offer the safety specs and panels that are suitable for a 10w, and the instructions to build it in kit form, then provide a kit, you probably sidestep some regulations and we’ll buy them… Alternatively the snapmaker reviews are already tending towards “look elsewhere for lasering” so I guess that’s always an option. I do like the K40 talk but don’t want the hassle of a CO2 laser, full fibre or nothing

Hey guys, we have been waiting patiently for the Upgraded laser module, could you kindly share if there is some progress on it? I think it should be available by now…

Please Wake UP!

@Nery

Exactly what do you mean by this? Telling someone to wake up because you think they’re asleep, on a forum? That’s about one of the strangest things I’ve ever seen. What? Do you think they’ll suddenly just have a ringing in their ears and wake up from sleeping because you said to on the internet?

As far as the actual point of your comment, it’ll be available when they feel it’s ready, and I’m fine waiting, I don’t want something rushed to availability because that’s when things go wrong and we end up with a product that isn’t ready and has problems.

“Within 2021” and Quarter 4 was always the mentioned time frame by SM staff.

Hi all,

looking at the latest iteration of the official Luban Sourcecode (6 days ago today), there is almost certain evidence the release of a 10 watt laser is closely imminent:

In the past, Snapmaker also added rotary support only very close to the module’s official unveiling, which makes sense - merging into the main sourcecode for Luban is not so easy to undo, so you’d only do it when the technical specs of the module are so final mass production can begin.

Based on past experience with how long it took after software readiness to become market readiness I positively confirm we will be able to order this new laser module before Christmas this year.
