Warning: 3D printing and birds

Hello together,

I recently bought a ptfe tubing and found out that this material is Teflon.

Teflon is known for emitting hazardous gasses for birds when reaching temperatures above 202°C.

Here is some further information in english:

And this source in german which tells us about 1200 chickens killed by heating lamps, and 5 cockatiels killed by PTFE fumes:

Please be careful and not let your birds come in the near of your 3d printer - a ptfe tubing is integrated into the extruder of the snapmaker and almost every other 3d printer. Also a small amount could be extremly harmful for your birds.

And tomorrow the sky will fall on our heads!

Pets have no business in the workshop. And birds certainly not at all. The animals are always so difficult to remove from the prints.

I know two people who have their printers in the kitchen. Not everybody has a workshop like us :man_shrugging:

@Slynold I sleep on the printer’s case, it’s so nice and warm. :fire: Ne just next to it. But is a workshop and a functional sports area. :couplekiss_man_woman: When the A350’s power supply is running, at least the neighborhood doesn’t hear what my wife and I are doing. The vapors are just a question of the correct exhaust air. And that’s what I need when I consume onions. :onion:

Hahaha, I just think of it as a white noise generator myself. Helps me sleep at night.

You can get a all metal throat for the SM2 (and most other 3d printers) so that you don’t have any ptfe tubes on your system… if you search the forums you will find the thread with the link to the proper throat.

Thank you for this information. I am one of the lucky ones with a workshop in my basement.
I just wanted to raise awareness with this thread. :bird:
