Used Artisan worth $1200?

Hi Guys,

Was thinking of upgrading my A350 to an Artisan for $1200. It also comes with an enclosure. I’ve upgraded my A350 with the 200w CNC, 10w laser, stiffening kit, quick disconnect kit for the heads and beds. I also did a linear rail mod, CNC chip blower and vacuum, and a (rather ingenious) chip catching mod. Just wondering at this point if there would be any benefit to getting the Artisan other than a larger build area. Will I have to add stiffening kits and rail mods like with the A350. I cut a lot of aluminum plate with my current machine.

Thoughts?

John

Keep your sm2. I upgraded to artisan and wouldnt do it again althougth i enjoy the workbench size.

Especially that the single Extruder is not supported and swapping the heads to print is amazing time of calibration every time. You have to calibrate the Dual head like 45min to “fast print” some stuff.

There is a way to skip that in debug mode, but it is hillarious. The cable Management is much worse, the Control unit is not placable where i want… the Maschine is okay, but do not have the empty threaded holes to attach self made stuff. Much less mods for it. Closed source code.

Not worth the price.

So you have to use Luban? That would suck. That is the worst piece of garbage software I’ve used, ever.

thanks for the heads up.

No, it is not related to luban. I use lightburn for Lasering, Fusion for CNC and Cura for printing.

But the firmware itself is garbage. There are so many problems and minor bad UI decisions, that the whole fun with that machine is dying fast.

The assembling and hardware is nice. But the software is much worse than the 2.0. You have less mods, you can use less modules (especially the single extruder). The axis are bit more rigid. And you have more space. That’s it.

I have the u1 now and it is working really great so hopefully I will never have to print with my artisan again. As I am working a lot with wood, it is still okay that I have the machine.
