Unstable homing, tool change anomalies and layer shifts

I’m having a big challenge getting my new U1 up and running and hoping to find some guidance to help resolve these issues.

When I start a print I usually have an issue with unstable homing or the initial tool change check fails with one of the tool heads being dropped by the carriage.

I repeat the belt tensioning and initial calibration steps and eventually get the print to start but then after around 2 hours printing I usually get a layer shift, it then prints a bit more before finally stopping due to a failed tool change. It pulls the tool head out of the dock but it doesn’t latch onto carriage so it falls free.

I’m guessing I either have an issue with inconsistency of belt tensioning or unreliable homing. I have noticed that the X axis Gantry only touches the end stop on the left side, the other side has a gap of a few mm. I think this may cause an inconsistent home position?

Are there some other checks I can do to help diagnose the issue? Or useful extra information I could provide?

Here is the wiki:

And a video about troubleshooting the picking problem:

Anyway, open a ticket and get help from support:

You need to contact support. I had the same problem and they resolved the issue.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have got an open ticket and been working through with support for the last week, running multiple calibrations and prints. I just thought I would post up here as well to see if there is anything else I could be doing to find the issue.

The main topic at the moment seems to around how the toolheads mechanically latch onto the carriage. I think the magnets are slightly pulling the toolhead towards the carriage so the pin slips out the back of the latch instead engaging it, the carriage pulls forward, the toolhead isn’t latched and falls off the back. On other occasions there is generally a bit of a clunky tool change that I think maybe causing some missed steps and causing the layer shifts. I’ve been spending a lot of time trying to diagnose and even have a tripod setup above so I can film high speed footage of the tool changes  . Unfortunately no fix yet!
