This is just a little post to let you know that I cannot stress enough how nearly mandatory it is to mod the PSU fan in the U1 if you keep the printer in the same room as you. Switching to a Sunon MF60152V21000UA99 (under 10€) and removing the plastic grille on the PSU cover not only made the U1 so silent that I was worried the fan wasn’t running at all, but even the stepper drivers benefit from the improved airflow and run about 5°C cooler (around 78°C instead of 85°C for the same print).
I love the U1, but this constant noise was nearly too much.
1h of work if you are as unexperienced as me and absolutely worth it.
I really dont get it. Why the heck did Snapmaker put this screaming blender in an otherwise very well engineered machine that made this such an annoiance? Cannot be more than a couple of cents production cost, for a far better out-of-the-box user experience.
I did a search for the fan, Amazon US, at $21 with a month shipping time ! I also searched for a tutorial how to accomplish your suggestion. I found an incorrect version on the Snapmaker wiki site, as it is a 24v fan and is squirrel-cage design.
Would you have a link for this project?
Update: Digikey has the fan for US$8.47 and it may not be a month to get it shipped.
you all would be absolutely right abour half rotational speed, half air throughput and potential hazard if the original fan would have been 12V.
But, in fact, it is 24V. At least in my U1.
