U1 leaves traces of other colors where it shouldn't

Hello,

I am having issues with multicolor prints where the U1 leaves little blobs or traces of color in a layer that has more that one color present. See pic of the cat with red dots in line with the red nose. I had the problem really bad on a print that consisted of black inlaid text on a white cylinder. There were dots everywhere, always a little ways away from the actual parts that should be that color. My guess is that the erroneous blobs coincide with a wall crossing?

I typically have zhop off as it actually seems to increase stringing and also is very noisy. But setting the zhop to 0.4mm on a reprint of the cat did make the red dots go away, albeit with the increased stringing.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Yes, I think so – perhaps when the head is being parked. You could try adjusting the combing settings (sorry, I’m not familiar with Orca yet).

  • You might have oozing of the red filament/buildup on its nozzle, maybe try lowering it’s temperature a bit or change retraction settings.
Your stringing problem with z-hop also points to retraction settings maybe.
  • You can try the “Avoid crossing walls” checkbox in Orca (it’s in the “Quality” tab)
  • You can try placing the model and the prime tower in different positions on the plate to change the travel paths
  • And yeah, z-hop is pretty much the workaround for stuff like this (though I fully agree that it is only a workaround and ideally shouldn’t be necessary)

Thanks all. Yeah I’ve done full filament calibration. I didn’t see much difference in retraction settings during the retraction test. I get a lot of cotton candy like stringing with zhop on, much less with it off no matter what. Filament is well dried. I do have ‘avoid crossing walls’ turned on as well.

my guy this looks like my prints when I don’t use a prime tower.
