Trying to learn Orca

Need some help on Orca, v2.2.1. I’m on a A350, not a U1 so v2.2.1 should be fine for me. I’m trying to like Orca, it definitely has more control than Luban (V4.1.5), but I’m having a little transition problem. The main one for this query is that, on a model with raised text, Orca isn’t picking it up. Luban does just fine picking it up. In Luban it is 5 print layers. In Orca, I’m using the default SM “0.20 Standard @Snapmaker (0.4 nozzle)” unmodified. In Luban, I’m using ‘Normal.’ Any suggestions?

I’m finding Orca is a heck of a lot faster than Luban, even using the same print parameters crossed over to the other slicer; speed, thickness, retraction. What else would account for the fact that, in general, Luban takes twice as long to do the same model?

The other problem I’m having with Orca that I can’t seem to get right are the seams. They tend to ‘bulge’ a lot more than Luban’s. I’ve looked at over extrusion as the culprit, but Luban is spot on for extrusion with 100% flow but Orca at 98% flow isn’t. What else could be the culprit and is there a setting in Orca that I haven’t found yet?

Thanks

For the raised text, try enabling detect thin walls (Strength → Walls → Detect thin walls).

For the seams, you can try adjusting the seam gap or use scarf seams (Quality → Seam).

I believe the main factor for the speed difference is that orca uses higher acceleration values.

Thanks, I’ll take a look at those.
Regarding acceleration, I’ve played with the obvious speeds, is acceleration another setting somewhere? Not a big deal, just curious.

Or try making the text a little larger. Old version of Luban wouldn’t print anything narrower than 0.4mm. The couple of random dots showing up where the text should be tells me the text is thinner than 0.4mm.

Hey MarkJ

I am new to 3d printing as well. Have a look at extruder calibration a must under the Snapmaker 2.0 topics! The extruder calibration made a hell of out a difference to my prints in Orca

Thanks @Cadae & @clewis I had forgotten about the ‘thin walls’ setting in Orca. Doing that got me to the equivalent of Luban. But I had also forgotten one of the prime requirements of making a model; don’t go below the capabilities of the equipment. Yep, the text was below 0.4mm, and while Luban and Orca with thin walls showed it, it probably wouldn’t have been pretty. I’ve upped the text to exceed 0.4mm. Thanks again.
