Once I got the SnapDryer by Polymaker and Snapmaker set up in my filament rack, I fell in love with the system even more! Please take a look at my SnapDryer guide for more ideas and images.
Awesome! I canāt wait to get mine. Thanks for the guide.
Thanks. I got a few āError code 13-12ā before I got it right. Please let us know if this will or will not work for you.
Great timing, I just recieved mine today. Iāll definitely try it out tomorrow. I have some old filament that I want to try to resurrect ![]()
I should imagine, with a double stack, it would take just as long as doing two separately.
And if one box is significantly more humid than the other, it will be taking that air and passing it through the other box too.
My initial impression of the Double Barrel Mod by 3DPrintSOS on Printables is that it requires more than just the PLA heating mode. When I use it, I set it to one level higher. Itās possible that even the third heating mode might work better. I havenāt tested.
Following the designerās recommendation, I printed the system using a sturdier material than PLA - PETG in my case. On my Snapmaker Artisan, it printed OK, but I wish the design were easier to print, as it required much support.
I ordered the SnapDryer bundle along with the Snapmaker U1 and Iām wondering if the device even works. Iām a beginner and have no experience drying filament.
With all the filament spools I tried (4 x PETG, wood PLA, TPU, ASA, and 3 x PLA), the desiccant was almost immediately black, and even after 15 hours of drying, I couldnāt get the humidity below 34%. Only after drying the desiccant in the microwave was I able to get the humidity down to 10%.
I also wasnāt able to regenerate the desiccant in the SnapDryer. After 15 hours on the highest setting without a filament spool, the desiccant was still black!
I donāt intend to treat the desiccant in the microwave after every new spool of filament. What am I doing wrong?
Same here. I only just recently got around to opening my SnapDryer/boxes and the desiccant was already black despite being in sealed bags. It took days in the SnapDryer (on the highest setting) to get one of them to even slightly start to turn orange again. I have been busy with work and havenāt got back to dealing with this but guessing Iāll have to dry them in the microwave.
Quick check: when drying, are you keeping the container plugs open? Thatās essential, as moisture needs a way to escape the container during drying.
Also, drying desiccant in a microwave is a well-known and widely used practice, especially when itās fully saturated. Many users do this to āresetā the desiccant more quickly before reuse.
From my experience, it also feels like the system could benefit from more desiccant overall. Adding extra loose beads, or small sachets at the bottom of the container may help increase moisture absorption, especially in humid environments.
When drying, I had the container stopper closed. The manual also nowhere mentions that you should remove the stopper. However, based on my previous experience, I really find it usefulāat least during the first half of the drying time. Otherwise, with freshly unpacked rolls that have never been dried before, or truly damp rolls, the desiccant must be regenerated immediately after just one hourā¦
ā¦Drying in the microwave actually works very well. Iāve only had the printer and dryer for three weeks and have already dried the desiccant in the microwave three times. I hadnāt actually imagined it would be like thisā¦
