Hi everyone! ![]()
I’ve owned a U1 for a few months now, and I ended up building a custom slicer (using the Snapmaker Orca engine and its built-in profiles) which I’ve now made open source.
Two main reasons led me to do this:
• Connection issues after waking from sleep: Snapmaker Orca often struggles to find the printer again when the computer wakes up. Snap Studio automatically detects the U1 on the network and reconnects seamlessly. (It was driving me crazy!)
• Integrated AI powered by Claude: You can describe a modification (e.g., “enlarge the holes to 23 mm,” “add my logo to the side”) or a part you want to create, and Claude will generate a 3D model for you in real-time—delivered as a multi-colored 3MF file, ready for slicing.
Other features include: 3MF file thumbnails, a virtual representation of the U1 build plate, integrated slicing via the Snapmaker Orca engine (no extra installation required), camera feed, a print queue, and built-in access to platforms like MakerWorld and Printables.
The goal is to handle everything from within the app.
Available for macOS, Windows, and Linux.
(Note: Not yet digitally signed for Apple/Microsoft—you may need to right-click and select “Open” the first time you launch it. This is a personal project, not an official Snapmaker release.)
It’s a work in progress, and I’d love to hear your feedback—whether it’s bug reports or new ideas! ![]()
