I did consider this but there was no obvious sign the extruder ‘buckle’ as they call it had become disengaged. Was there are physical evidence in your case that this was the cause? Or did you just try this and it fixed it?
If you unload the filament, you will see where the gears were spinning on it, it will be all chewed up. I couldnt see any issues and thought it was just bad filament. It seems to do this with silk filaments on my machine cause I used a different nonsilk filament and it printed fine. I inserted the tabs and retried with the silk and it printed fine. But when it happens, it does exactly what you are describing, it prints, finishes and it is only half printed. To be sure, go check it at different intervals and you will see it isnt feeding.
