Mark your calendars – August 22nd, 7am PDT! Snapmaker Ray is ready to meet you!
This is exciting news for someone like me who mostly used the laser cutting function on my Snapmaker. I do have a few questions:
Will this be compatible with the rotary module and the air purifier modules?
I noticed on the questions at the bottom of the product page that there would be an option to purchase this without a module for those of us that recently purchased the 20W/40W modules. Will this discount be as much as those modules?
Is this the only size option? I feel like a 600mmx600mm would be nice now that you’ve made that module.
What is the projected cost? It would be nice to know that before the pre-order date so I know whether to sell my car or my kidney.
Thank you, and I look forward to more information soon!
For now, Ray supports the use of Lightburn in the following aspects:
serial port connection
movement control
generate g-code with Lightburn
material library for Ray in Lightburn
We have touched base with Lightburn. Hopefully, we can add a Wi-Fi connection soon.
The firmware development of Ray is based on GRBL. It can support greyscale mode as seen in the image mode in Lightburn.
The Maximum Workpiece Height for Ray is 160mm(with two sets of cylindrical feet).
About the compatibility of the 1.6W and 10W modules with Ray, I will keep you updated next week.
Yes, the 40W module is also compatible with Snapmaker 2.0. you can check more about the 20W&40W laser module info here: Snapmaker 20W Cutter | 40W Laser Engraver Online – Snapmaker US
And you can choose the option of a 40W Laser Engraver and Cutter with Enclosure or a 40W Laser Engraver and Cutter.
If you purchased the 20W&40W module earlier, we will release the Ray without the laser module on August 22nd. You can purchase it on the online store at that time.
The work area for Ray is 400 mm*600 mm. Yes, only one side, thanks for your feedback.
For the price and the discount of Ray, I will update you if we have any news, please stay tuned! Don’t worry, it won’t cost a leg:)
I reckon support for 1.6W and 10W is quitte important due to the following.
The 40W beam size is very large compared to 1.6w as example.
So when doing engraving ( greyscale) you need fine details which would be limited by the 40W module.
For the rigidity of the linear module, we adopt steel guiderails made by CNC grinding at micron level in Ray, ensuring precision and stability for high speed movement and long-lasting operation. The dust resistant steel strip can protect linear rails from dust.
These measures help to guarantee that the axes are parallel and the motion accuracy meets the required standards.
Would there be the possibility of purchasing the Ray without a laser head unit? For example, if I own an Artisan and ordered the 40w laser already and then want to simply move my existing 40W laser over to the Ray enclosure to create a dedicated solution… could we possibly get the option to purchase without the laser?
Is there an ETA on the 1064nm Infrared 2W laser? I just purchased a 10W module for my A350, and then the 20W/40W was announced a few days later - I almost bought the 40W but then held off - and then the Snapmaker Ray was announced as soon as the pre-orders were closed for the 20/40W.
So asking because I wouldn’t want to get a 40W Ray, and then a week later see I could have got the 1064nm module with it instead.
(Bonus question unrelated to the Ray - When’s the Camera module coming out so we can make awesome timelapses? )
