My Experience with Snapmaker

My first Snapmaker worked without any problems, including warranty cases. I had no issues with the warranty process at that time.

With my second Snapmaker, the U1, it has been completely different. I have had nothing but problems, and I have not received warranty coverage for any of them.

It started with the new machine. The Hotend fan was defective and I had to replace it at my own expense. Snapmaker did not reimburse me for it.

Then there was software update 1.5.0. After the update, two nozzles crashed into the PEI plate. The coating on the PEI plate was damaged, and both nozzles were damaged as well. I did not receive replacements for those either. I was told that these were only cosmetic defects and that it was not a serious issue.

Now the feeder has failed, and once again I am not getting a replacement under warranty.

That is my experience with Snapmaker so far. With my first Snapmaker, I had no problems with warranty cases. With the U1, however, I have had repeated problems and have had to pay for the resulting replacement parts myself.

That does not align with other people’s experience. Did you engage with support to work through your problems, or just go it alone and then think you could claim back? If so, that’s not how warranties work.

I’m sure Snapmaker support would have provided spare parts for free if they agreed that was what was needed.

Did you perform the full recalibration that was required when updating to 1.5.0? There were issues with this, but I (personally) make it a point not to lead the way in adopting firmware updates!

If an auto-feeder really has failed, there is no reason you should not receive a replacement under any reasonable post-sales support within the warranty period. The only reason I can think of is that you have not properly engaged with support.

Like @CrazyIvan wrote, I can’t believe that support does not exchange defective parts (like the cooling fan)..
If you share your ticket numbers they can look into it to improve in the future.

Wondering why you triple post?

SM replaced a toolhead cooling fan for me that was noisy? I just opened a ticket and sent a small video clip of it after following some quick instructions from the WIKI guide

Seems to me you think if you make enough fuss and noise you’ll get your own way, but if you speak to support the way you have spoken on here (more than once) then I’m not surprised nobody wants to help you

It seems to me some people have unreasonable expectations. Whether that is the case here remains to be seen, we don’t have enough details.

My advice (and I flatter myself that this should be carved in stone somewhere):

  1. Purchases from overseas are almost certain to run into problems should you need/wish to return the item. Regardless of consumer rights in your locality (which almost certainly only apply to domestic purchases), it is not reasonable to expect the vendor to provide free returns when an international delivery is involved, along with all the necessary paperwork. Therefore, prospective purchasers must factor in the possibility that money spent will be money lost.
  2. Wherever possible, purchasing through platforms such as eBay and Amazon avoids many of these pitfalls because of the consumer protection provided by those platforms. In UK law, purchase by credit card may offer some protection in the event of a breech of contract (eg the item is not fit for purpose) if the purchase meets specific criteria, because the credit card issuer has joint liability with the vendor.
  3. Because of the difficulty in obtaining any redress for an item purchased directly from overseas, dissatisfied purchasers can either take the loss on the nose, or be very diplomatic with the vendor hoping for good will in the full knowledge they could wipe their hands of you with very few consequences. Being anything less than courteous is not going to help, regardless of how angry you might (justifiably) be.
  4. Dissing a vendor in public (or private) is a last resort, only for when all hope of an alternative resolution has been lost. As a form of persuasion it is ineffective, because once it’s out there you can’t take it back. Threatening to dis a vendor as a form of blackmail should be treated as just that – blackmail.
  5. Despite being marketed as consumer durables, FDM printers are not a mature technology (and might never be). There are too many variables, including operator experience, and can only be considered enthusiast purchases. Problems are to be expected. Industrial units costing tens of thousands of pounds and naturally more reliable than hobbyist units, come with annual support contracts costing more thousands of pounds to ensure they continue to work efficiently.

For information and disclosure: I backed the U1 on Kickstarter. I was knowingly agreeing to give money to a company on the other side of the planet in the hope (not certainty) of ultimately receiving what they were offering (the U1), but there was no guarantee. I did my due diligence, saw that Snapmaker had a history of delivering on their promises, and went ahead because I wanted to back the project. I had absolutely no consumer protection, and I knew that.

Bear in mind that the OP has not dissed anybody. It just contains facts.
But the apologists were bound to jump on it regardless.
When I saw the first post with no answers yet I thought “it won’t be long before…”

You’ve also missed the posts that have been removed including foul language and threats to SM which could open a whole can of worms should they wish to take action…

So does my post – it’s a general observation.

Sad thing, this story. Sad, because it is a one-sided story and SM sofar was not given a chance to reply. Also, a lot of additional info is missing, like the entire correspondence, from which we, the readers, can make up our mind. With that missing, it sounds like a lot of frustration, not more.

Hi everyone,

Thank you to everyone who took the time to read this thread and share your thoughts. We truly appreciate the fair-minded approach from the community.

After reviewing all 17 ticket records, we fully acknowledge that Micha1982 has had a very frustrating experience. Over the past few months, he purchased multiple U1 units, and our team worked closely with him across numerous tickets to address various issues. This included replacing feeders, sending toolhead components, and processing full refunds on multiple machines. We genuinely appreciate his technical feedback and have always taken it seriously.

To help provide full context, we would like to share a few key details:

The Firmware v1.5.0 Issue
Micha1982 reported that after upgrading to firmware v1.5.0, the toolhead crashed into the build plate during the wiping sequence. Our firmware team investigated, confirmed the bug, and has since released a fix. Regarding the resulting scratches on the PEI sheet, our team assessed them as cosmetic marks that do not affect printing performance. As a goodwill gesture, we offered a €10 gift card. While we understand Michael feels the sheet should be fully replaced, and we respect his perspective, our assessment remains that the build plate is still fully functional.

The Return Policy
Micha1982 requested a return under the EU 14-day withdrawal period. The vibration issue on that specific machine was found to be a resonance characteristic within certain speed ranges, rather than a mechanical defect. Because of this, the return was processed under our standard return policy, which includes a restocking fee. This is a policy we apply consistently to all EU customers.

What We Have Done So Far:

  • Replaced feeders on multiple occasions
  • Sent replacement toolhead bases
  • Processed full refunds for multiple machines
  • Offered financial compensation
  • Agreed to replace additional components as special exceptions

What We Stand By:

  • We have never refused warranty coverage for confirmed functional defects.
  • We have consistently provided troubleshooting steps or replacement parts for every issue raised.

We want to be transparent that some of the communication from Micha1982 included inappropriate language directed at our support agents. We completely understand how frustrating product issues can be, and we are always here to listen and help. However, we ask that discussions stay focused on the machine rather than the individuals helping.

Our technical support channels remain open, and we are more than happy to continue working with Micha1982 directly to resolve any remaining items.

Thanks. Zoe, for the insights. Now it does look completely different.

Especially when you mention the inappropriate language, it does feel that stress level was high and it proves that it is always better not to reply to message diretly, but after one nights sleep.

The firmware caused damage. End of.
Would you be happy if your car’s steering firmware update caused it to scrape a wall but remained fully functional?

No reason is needed to request a return under the “EU 14-day withdrawal period”. Yet you claim you agreed to this because of “resonance”.
Regarding the restock fee:
“No, the seller cannot charge a restocking fee if you cancel your order within the statutory 14-day window.Under EU Consumer Rights Directive regulations, any penalty, administrative, or handling fee for exercising your right of withdrawal is strictly prohibited. The seller must refund your full payment, which includes the original standard shipping costs you paid at checkout.”

Strongly suggest to close this - no need for us to read the stuff.

Another 2 added to the block list…

I had problems with my U1 almost right out of the box, and Yes I was rather annoyed but at no time have their customer service let me down, or reacted in a less than helpful manner. I recently recieved 2 new free of charge Toolhead PCB’s from them in response to an issue I had.

Reading the OP’s posts, I honestly believe his experience is more caused by his attitude towards them than any real failing on their part.

Manners cost nothing, and in most cases good manners get the same in return.

I don’t really have to say much on this bit apart from it takes an extremely weak person to think it’s justified to act this way.

Call me an apologist if it makes you feel good, but the OP clearly launched his teddy into orbit, and acted like the typical keyboard warrior with regard to his treatment of SnapMaker staff.

Nuff said… :upside_down_face:

There is a lot of opinion being presented here without actually knowing the facts. As I said, I’ve been arguing with this company for quite some time now, basically only because of my wife, because she likes printing colorful Mat Mire figures.

I mainly print single color parts that work reliably, usually Pa6 CF and PPS CF, so I use different machines for that and I’m also familiar with the service provided by other manufacturers.

The bottom line is that they have now replaced all the parts for me except for the build plate and the nozzles on my 3D printer. Their response was basically that these are consumable parts and that’s just how it is. Exactly. According to them, it has no effect on the actual printing.

So I ended up buying a new PE build plate at my own expense, and then I bought another two nozzles as well.

This is what I don’t like to read. Did you apologize already ?
