Luban v4.4.0 Beta Test

Over the past few months our focus has been on overall 3DP feature enhancements, dual-extruder support, and Artisan support. Dual-extruder and Artisan support is currently not completely over in v4.4. But the enhancements to the overall functionality of 3DP are almost complete, and we can’t wait to share this update with you. @Blauskink @tyeth @Baukeplugge @Mads0100 @NeilL @tyeth @Rocinante @AnthonyH @albutch

Change log will be very helpful to understand this new version.

Notice

At present, the repair of the 3DP module problem in this version has basically ended, but the Laser&CNC is still in the test

Known critical issues

  • CNC On the Path method can’t generated toolpath correctly(in some cases)

Change Log

Format Support

3MF and AMF Formats

  • 3DP, Laser, cnc all support the import of 3mf and amf formats
  • When 3DP imports 3mf and amf files with multiple models, they are imported as group (and tiled hierarchically)

3DP Feature Updates (Epic Enhancements)

Configuration parameters

  • 290+ material parameters and print parameters(more advanced parameter)
    • Speed control: Fine structure speed control, acceleration control, jerk control
    • Support: Multi-density support, tree support, support preference
    • Fill: Fractal fill, multi-density fill
    • Top and bottom: Ironing mode
    • Structure fine-tuning, path optimization
  • New quick parameter setting interface, while also retaining the old version of the custom display parameters
  • Enhanced parameter management interface
    • Variety of parameter display modes
    • Detailed parameter explanation

Simulation Preview

  • Enhance the original thin line preview to a simulation preview with a volume, which has better visual effects and is more in line with the printed product (but it will have higher performance, especially the Gcode of large models has certain memory requirements)

Quick Preview before Slice

  • No need for slicing, you can see a rough preview of the print on the canvas
    • Only a few parameters are supported, which is faster for simple adjustments, the actual preview results will be different from the slicing results
    • Some users may encounter performance issues , switch is provided in Preference
  • In subsequent planning, we hope that this feature will become a real-time preview. Of course, this premise is that adjustable parameters are as few as possible and the packaging is as perfect as possible. We expect fdm technology to become mature and simple step by step

New Material Setting and Selection

  • From the far right of the top toolbar, enter the material settings and selection interface
  • Redesigned material selection page to present a large amount of material more clearly
  • The new material is quickly added to the function, and the parameter configuration of the corresponding material is quickly created according to the data on the material tray
The current UI design is not final, there may be some changes

Model Repair and Model Simplification

  • Added model repair function to fix common error
  • Added model simplification to streamline the model or convert the model to a low-poly style under the limits of print accuracy

3D Canvas Style Updates

  • Updated the display style to make the overall more coordinated
  • Added dynamic display of plate scales at different scales
  • Optimized zoom interaction and panning after zooming in

Print Configuration Tied to Material and Nozzle Diameter

  • Different print configurations are displayed under different materials and under different nozzle diameters

Laser & CNC

Toolpath Optimization

  • Optimize the path of vector machining to make machining time shorter

This looks great, finally able to tweak most of the settings available in Ultimaker Cura.

Is e-steps / K-factor (linear advance) going to be included as a profile setting ( e.g. per-nozzle per-material with specific temperatures+speeds, so per profile)?

-EDIT-
Feedback: I tried duel extruder to see how it would work, mostly painless, but some dialogs (material choice) forgot or did not respect my machine settings. I changed the material dialog over to machine/material settings and selected the Not Ready dual extruder there too, then I could edit the second material. Applying materials to a model seems easy enough, and I like the option to use different material for infill/walls of the model, along with options for all supports etc. I would love to be able to paint areas of the model with a material like the supports can be custom selected / painted onto the model using Edit. Imagine painting the eyes of a frog.

Also just tried importing 4 STL files at once (drag and drop) which are part of the same piece, but there seems no way to align them as intended, because they are auto-arranged (can be moved to center) and also automatically dropped to the build plate (unsolvable).
Model from Free STL file Multi-Color World with Stand・3D printable model to download・Cults
(Was intending to use blue material for water and then same nozzle for other 3 pieces - snow/land/base, but would be a good example to test pausing at layer to swap filament, base brown, then swap to green, then finally white)

e-step/k-factor in material settings: We are working on this part.
Model Algin: Using Align tool.align
More than two color: There is currently no plan for an automatic pause filament change feature, but we’ll think about it. I feel that this function also allows single-nozzle printing to divide multi-color by Z
Paint on model: I want to do a little research, why do you want this feature? @tyeth

I installed v4.4.0 and had problems setting the bed temperature, whatever I did the gcode file had the temp set at 70C. I played around editing material settings and eventually broke Luban. Uninstalling and reinstalling does not fix the issue, I expect there is a persistent file somewhere which has become corrupted. Screenshot:

This happens just after the 3D print screen appears, I think while its loading the materials library.
Laser and CNC workspaces do not crash the app.

I saw an online slicer maybe designed for the mosaic Pallete 2+3 that offered painting colours onto existing one material models. https://youtu.be/vnUnF3wooZk

We have updated with a new package. If you still have problems, you can consider applying Alt+Shift+R on the home page to restore the original installation state

Thanks, appears to be OK now.

Thanks for everyone’s feedback! Now Luban v4.4.0 is in the Pre-release. If it goes well, it will be officially released in a few days.
