Laser engraving ceramic tile

Hi all,

we have some very nice grey-brown-terracotta-colored ceramic tiles. So I have set up a laser-job
The 10W-laser cuts fine into the material, there is no smoke and no smell at all BUT there is a hissing sound and some glowing sparks are visible, so I stopped the job (I donā€™t want the laser-lens getting burned).

I wonder if anyone has tried that before or has information about ā€œburning/lasering cermaic tilesā€? Whatā€™s the glowing sparks?

Thanks a lot.
Tobias

Iā€™ve done a bunch of ceramic tile and the sound is normal. The little spark bits are just superheated pieces popping if they have a little moisture. Dry them good first and it might help. Otherwise, itā€™s fine.

Thanks. I thought so too about the sound, and it also may fit to the moisture that is vaporising.
Do you have any recommendations on speed and laser power?

Iā€™ve had good results on bare glazed tile with 1000mm/m, 100% power, 0.15 interval.

Thanks, Iā€™ll give that a try
