Hi All!
I originally posted Here: Unexpected CNC Toolpath Shift a few weeks ago but I have run into an entirely different error at the finish line and need to try to understand what happened before I start over.
First, I nearly miraculously zeroed in on the offset from my previous post. Changed the stock by 5.742 mm and if it wasn’t perfectly lined up, it was within fractions of fractions of true.
I went to do a final facing to remove most of the excess epoxy & hot glue and got the following unfortunate result:
I set the final depth to 0.2mm from top of stock and while the epoxy in some places was maybe 1.5ishmm, I can’t account for the result. It only dug deeper in the epoxied areas as the facing went far to the left and right.
Is it because the model was deeper there? The facing still shouldn’t have gone deeper than 0.2mm.
Is this possibly an SM issue? Its too big a depth and inconsistent to merely be a tramming issue (and I’m not sure I could tram the Y-direction).
Its possibly a fusion file issue, as in this same file I had to adjust the length of other bodies by the 5.742 to get it to carve the last stage in the correct place.
My only real thought is that something happened between switching to laser than back to CNC (while off) for different jobs in the middle of this one. My home coordinates were good though so I’m not sure why that might have thrown the machine or file off.
