Firmware beta for J1/J1S! 2025-12-31

It would be even better if you could provide some specific information!

Actually, I’m also a J1 KS backer. The layer-shift you mention shows up mostly when print speed and acceleration are high. I later found the J1 Y-motor may lack torque; two fixes—unofficial but proven—both tricky:

  1. I swapped the Y-motor for a taller, higher-torque 42-stepper; the alloy rib behind it had to be ground away to fit the extra height. After that, Y-shifts vanished.

  2. I redesigned the X rail: replaced the heavy alloy extrusion and mount with twin carbon-fiber rods, cutting moving mass and easing the Y-motor’s load.

If you don’t plan to modify, I recommend simply reducing acceleration and print speed!

@Simon_Zhi, one more feature for J1 FW: please, consider the control of LED intensity (at least on/off) on J1/J1s server web. Thank you.

Awesome to hear of a new firmware update!

I have a small feature request: add another line for the filename, so they don’t need to be truncated, or reveal the full filename in the details page. Like in the screenshot below, crucial information stored in the filename gets completely hidden, and not even in the details page can you see the complete filename!

One more idea that could be finished quickly: you start a print. The printer HOMES. You realize you loaded the wrong filament, so you press cancel, the printer HOMES. Then you want to change filament. The printer HOMES again. Now you restart the print hob - the printer HOMES. Please introduce a setting that when there was no release of the motors after the last homing, you don’t actually need to home again - just move to the position where you want the toolhead to be. <3

Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation and for sharing your experience — really appreciated.

At the moment I’m not ready to go for such invasive hardware modifications, but it’s very useful to know where the limits of the machine might be.

I’ve redone all the calibrations and the situation has improved, although some shifting is still present.

In the attached photo the part was printed in PETG, and the layer shift happened on the X axis, not Y.

On another very similar tubular object, I was able to “work around” the issue by printing in Silent Mode, which seems to confirm that speed/acceleration play a significant role.

For now I’ll continue testing with more conservative settings and see how reproducible the issue is.

Hello @Simon_Zhi

I’m writing to ask about the status of the upcoming release. Can we still expect it before January 31, 2026 as promised, or is the team considering a slight delay to incorporate additional features? Personally, I would very much appreciate the latter if it means a more polished update.

On a related note, I also hope the J1(s) will receive continued attention from Snapmaker. There’s still room for improvement to make it the reliable machine it has the potential to be.

I was going through the calibration prints in the slicer on a J1s. When trying the retraction test, printer would lay down the initial layers and then the extruder would malfunction. It would load and unload back and forth very fast. Then all movement would stop for about 5-10 seconds and then the extruder would go back to trying to load and unload. I stopped the print and the printer went to the home points. The hotend dropped in temperature and the hotend fan shutoff but the heated bed stayed on and the supplemental part cooling fan in the back of the printer stayed on. I powered the printer off and tried again. Same issued happened again. Powered off the printer and then restarted the slicer. I tried a different file https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:909901 and sent remotely to the printer only for the same issue happen again. I also tried printing the file from USB but the same issue came up again. I did notice that when hitting stop and confirming the stop, the screen goes away and I have to hit stop two more times before the printer homes and shuts not hotend and bed.

I was able to print the flow tests three times before this issue occurred. I also deleted all local files except the stock ones as well as clean the nozzle after the first time the issue happened but that did not help anything.

You can submit a ticket at the same time in case the technical staff or fellow users in the forum don’t respond promptly.

Hey there anybody got any news about an official release or any updates? Would be awesome if I could actually use this printer like it was intended to… if finally snapmaker would improve there software support for the snapmaker j1s!

Since the update seems not to be out yet, a quick feature request:

  • ability to see hours printed and objects printed over lifetime of printer in settings (just as paper printers count paper, or projectors count hours), so I can enjoy my hardware cost per print go down the more I print

Anyways, any update is appreciated, even if it means: “not finished yet”.

@Simon_Zhi Hi, is any update of beta now?

Or, do you have any expected release date?

Thank you.

HI Thanks for the great work! here are some suggestions as well,

  • a page like in any slicer with a optional camera frame so i can attach my raspberry pi and actually see whats happening, the complete control interfece(which is only enabled for versions with camera enabled for safety),
  • the time of the print, overview of model filen which are on the printer memory(or usb),
  • speed control so we can actually do something,
  • also indeed sent information to email about significant printing issues (no filament, finishing job, etc.)
  • emergency stop
  • fan control
  • a silent mode for when going to sleep (fan less noise/ print speed less?)
  • print settings/fan control/light control/print speed/temparatures visible and manual editing of them
  • homing and movement/acceleration
  • filament settings/ extrude filament/ retract filament
  • usage of filament (meters/grams used and how much is still remaining)

total hours printed and total jobs printed counter would be fun indeed

thanks alot, hope it helped

Hi I just started a print in the evening, it is next to my room.. ik can sleep  can you make a true silent mode function in the firmware? The fans are loud, the movement are loud, even in the left option in performance mode menu.. see other printers how they do it pls. Also pls implement it in the snapmaker orca slicer and make/design the whole interface like better that k2plus or bambulab or prusa interface of the printer webpage. Pls ready urge users suggestions! There is a lot of potential but it should work properly first with the non beta firmware

Thanks in advance, can’t wait to finally see/use the new firmware and snapmaker orca slicer updateshave nice days!
