Hello. I just got my new U1 a few days ago. I’m used to Bambu.
When I load a generic PLA into the U1 and I have to define it there in the machine, but say I have Bambu PLA set in the slicer…does that software filament assignment get ignored because the filament was defined at the machine level?
The software tells the printer. I think when you manually identify it in the machine it simply helps you verify in the software “device” tab which color/type is “marked” on which print head only…I constantly forget what I loaded on which and it’s in the other part of the house and this helps me remember and change it in the software after looking at the device tab. At least that’s my experience however most of what I use has the RFID. Also if you decide to do the simple and fantastic PAXX12 firmware you can then get some blank tags and label all of your off brand filament and the machine will know what they are when you load them.
I’m still really confused, coming from Bambu universe.
In Bambu, you have a filament profile. That profile contains your bed and nozzle temps for different plates. Also cooling fan data.
If I just plug “GENERIC PLA” into the U1 while loading filament, how do I get customized filament settings? How do I make sure Aux fan is off, and Frostbite plate is 60C for first layer and 50C for the rest?

You can “load” the info from either side…the printer or the software side. Just cuz you put in info in the printer doesn’t mean the software knows what it is. BUT in the software side ONLY IF you select the “sync” what is in the printer on the individual heads will it populate that in to the software. It doesn’t do it automatically and is therefore only a reference in the Device tab for what you have manually entered in the machine side. If you don’t do the sync you have to manually create the filament option in the software side and it can be whatever you want it to process…it may or may not match what you manually did on the machine side unless you make sure to match them. Without RFID on the filaments you have to do some manual work on both sides of the situation. So if your process is to load the filament info in to the machine like it wants, then you must do what Zoe_M says to do in the software to make the software match what the machine sees, otherwise you have to also manually create it in the software to match the info shown in the Device tab info. It’s not really complicated and gives user control over things.
