I have found the reason that my cnc cuts are wonky (not level) . I know this is an issue that a lot of people are experiencing because Snapmaker will not do a self leveling in cnc mode as it does for printing. I am new to this and just started doing cnc work on the Snapmaker although I have cnc machine experience otherwise. My work surface is warped. I took the tork table off and placed it against a straight edge and found that the surface is cupped. Is this a warranty issue? It will have a definite effect when cutting thin pcb.
You donāt want a self-leveling for cnc mode.
Need to mill the spoilboard or a sacrificial surface mounted to it.

Milling the work table is not the answer long term. Sure it will be flat after milling, but when converting over to another utility, like printing, the board will need to be removed, and reinstalled later. Because it is curved on the underside, the same mounting screw tensions cannot be guaranteed and the angle of the board when re-mounted would be in question. same holds true with milling a wasteboard. Not only that, a wasteboard is just that, meant to be discarded. It will be better for me to make a new table that starts out flat and is not susceptible to humidity.
With tork table you mean the aluminum ācarriageā you screw all other plates onto? Those are not perfect and for example when printing it warps because of heat.
For cnc the easiest way is actually just flattening it. MDF typically doesnāt warp that much because of humidity. (Especially if you get the water resistant type.
Also do know that the SM2 isnāt a device that will give you accuracy into the 0.001mm range. I have been using a piece of mdf as base plate for a few months now and with great success. Iām not taking it off. Just mounting the other plates on top of it. And that just works fine. Also much flatter workface for 3D printing. Have been working on an improved version for a while (Idea for quick switch bed: feedback requested) and it seems to work quite well so far. (once the bottom plate is mounted I donāt take it off anymore)
I know others have been using the cnc wasteboard as a bottom as well successfully. I donāt have the impression it warps a lot. Then again, I donāt see huge fluctuations in humidity or temperature in the basement where my SM is located.
Thanks for the info and advice.
Meant āwork tableā Sorry for the club fingers. I was referring to the wood composite work surface that comes from Snapmaker. The metal structure underneath is straight and true as I can measure. I will try the MDF.
Thanks Again!
Thanks again for the post. However, I contacted Snapmaker and sent them pics of the cupped board. They agreed it was warped and are sending a replacement.
great customer service!
Ok, so while you are waiting for the new one to arrive; you can now safely mill your existing one flat
Yes that is the plan!
