CNC carving of soft metals

I have a SnapMaker 2.0 still on order (has not arrived yet). I am eager to utilize the CNC functionality, especially with the rotary tool add-on when that becomes available. However, I have not been able to gather an understanding on the CNC capability of working with soft metals, in addition to the advertised wood materials.

Has anyone done CNC work with some soft metals such as Aluminum 6061?

Hi jaredarius,
welcome to the forum!
Officially, the Snapmaker does not support metal with its standard milling head. However, on the facebook group I’ve seen people milling brass, and I suppose if you go for it carefully, softer Aluminium alloys are worth a try. There are several videos of people doing similar stuff, here are a few:

Just be careful and wear protection in case the bit snaps off and goes flying.

I once saw a guy who mill on Aluminium. Here is the video https://t.co/T7YO2ztwv4
It’s a double flute carbide end mill, with 3mm diameter.

I would be interested in the capability of the stock 2.0
