Does anyone have any experience with CNC machining or laser engraving on a PETG 3D printed object? How were the results and do you have any recommendations for settings?
Machining PLA and PETG shouldn’t be any more dangerous than printing it. You’ll get a tiny about of gases and particulate matter airborne.
There is a long thread about lasering various materials, and PLA and PETG are discussed in various comments.
The tl;dr seems to be if you’re worried about it, vent the enclosure outside. Some people are worried about it, some people aren’t.
I’ve laser engraved PETG a couple times, works great. I think about 1000mm/min at 100% power is what I used. The following image is of a probe holder I made for the CNC I use at work. Normally it just magnetic sticks to the top, but the vibrations make it walk off, so I designed and printed the holder and decided to plop my logo on it. Just make sure to exhaust fumes outside or wait for them to settle out.
Awesome, thank you! Thanks for the photo as well, that helps.
