Can 2 different models be printed simultaneously?

Hi there, I’m a new J1s owner. Not sure if this question has been asked but I can’t the solution in the forum.

I tried to print 2 single colour parts using Luban using default mode, I assigned left extruder to the left part and right extruder to the right part, expecting J1s will print them simultaneously. however the printer alters the extruders for the printing, left extruder prints a layer of the left part and back to home position then right extruder starts to print for that layer and then left, right, left, right.

How to setup the printer to make those 2 extruders print at the same time rather than altering ?

This isn’t physically possible. Since the two extruders share the same Y motion gantry, the only options for simultaneous part printing are the advertised Clone or Mirror modes.

These allow you to print two of the same object at once by performing the same motion. Or by making a mirror image by inverting the x motion of one.

It’s only possible because they then have exactly the same Y motion, and the same duration extrusion in X for both parts. It’s a unique trick for an IDEX printer if you want to duplicate things quickly! You place one (or multiple) object(s) on the left side of the plate and use the mode desired.

Otherwise, yes, it will do as you described and print them one layer at a time, alternating between the two extruders on each layer. That’s not super efficient of course, versus just printing each one quickly by itself without any tool swaps.
