I’m cutting 3mm MDF at 1100mm/min, two passes without lowering the Z-axis, with constant 100% power and airflow activated, using a 40W laser.
The cut is perfect and the pieces come out of the jig easily, but it’s causing a lot of burn marks underneath and a little on top. I’ve attached photos.
I sand it a bit and the problem is solved, but has anyone managed to cut without so much burn marks?
I cut with 750mm/min with one cut. One cut reduces the burn marks on the upper side. But the glue of the paper makes more dirt inside the enclosure, so be sure your airflow can handle that.
But I don’t want to be buying and glueing paper, the laser cuts that I usually do with small ones and then removing that glued paper is difficult, in addition, I see people who cut without dirtying the wood and I don’t understand how they get it
The glue is already on the paper and it is so less that there is absolutely no problem to get it off.
When you want clear cutting edges without any smoke, buy a CO2 laser. Cleaner cutting. With a blue Diode laser, you will have smoke and with smoke, you get dirt. I use a 2bar compressor for cutting and the paper from above and have good results. Also in selling.
