2W IR laser on wood

I have not much success with the 2W IR laser on wood - which is expected. Still, I would love to use the fine details the 2W can do also on wood engravings. Has anyone a hint or a method how you can do wood engravings with the 2W IR, e.g., by treating the wood with something?

What type of wood are you using? What are your settings? Have you seen THIS post?

I have seen that post, thanks. I do not see a connection - do you?

The 2W is not very good with wood - the IR wavelength is not well absorbed. I did a test pattern with different speeds and intensities, on basswod (plywood) - the stuff from the Snapmaker shop. At 100 mm/min from 60% upward, the laser starts, not leaving any mark, but it seems the wood gets warmer, and at some point it darkens - then absorbtion jumps up, and the laser burns through the complete wood.

My question is: can I treat the wood somehow? There are people using Borax or baking soda with blue lasers for darker results, I was wondering if someone has tried this or something else with the IR laser.
