How does U1 achieve material replacement while printing?

Everyone knows that the U1 has four tool heads, but only one tool head is working at the front.

So, can we achieve a process where, while Tool Head 1 at the front is printing, Tool Head 2 in the background performs material retraction, feeding, and flushing?

Then, after Tool Head 1 finishes printing, it returns to its position, and Tool Head 2 takes over.

In this process, the tool head changes materials without occupying any printing time.

I believe this is the direction for U1’s future updates.

If I understand the computer translation correctly…

I do not think so as it is currently implemented. In order to unload an extruder, there is some “ramming” performed. This includes needing to perform a small extrusion before fully retracting a material. It cannot do this while the tool is sitting on the silicone plug.

It is similar to how you would push then pull a filament when manually unloading it from any extruder without motor assistance. To ensure a clean tip is pulled from the extruder and prevent a hard clog.

Each tool head has independent power supply. I believe the extruder motor of an unloaded tool head can still function.

Regarding your point about needing to extrude a small amount of filament, that is also achievable.

The issue lies in modifying this silicone plug.

I noticed that this silicone plug is removable, so modification should not be difficult.
