Is Tangle Detection Possible?

I have had my U1 for less than a week. So far I have had 2 prints completely fail because one of the filaments was tangled and stopped feeding in, but the U1 didn’t notice and kept printing the other colors just as if the previous color had worked… complete waste of the other filaments. Any idea if the U1 is supposed to have tangle detection so it could pause and notify us when a tangle occurs?

Otherwise what would it take to make a mod to detect tangles?

Let me ask for you.

Yes, there is a setting that you can turn on and off. I forgot what it’s called. If I remember right, it measures the difference between extruder feed rate and autofeeder feed rate, and if difference is too big, it thinks filament is tangled or stuck somewhere in the filament path. This will trigger an error that would say so with instructions.

This feature is currently under testing and will be enabled by default once it stabilizes.

A tangle creates either grinding or excessive back-pressure, but the end-state is identical to an out-of-filament condition: the filament simply stops moving.

@Simon_Zhi , I had asked during testing, but is there a reason these are still off by default? Both of those, I mean.

I’m also confused because I thought one of these was the Backup Mode enable. I don’t have the final manual though to check which does which.

I left both of them on though and caught tangled filament.

Thank you, I have turned on “Filament Runout Detection” hopefully that will take care of the issue.

Its actually the extrusion failure detection.
