Auto Filament Feeder and clogs?!

I was getting an intermittent error on Extruder #2…0002-0523-0001-0038. It says, “check if the filament for Toolhead 2 is broken, tangled, etc”. In trouble shooting this, the wiki listed here:

https://wiki.snapmaker.com/en/snapmaker_u1/troubleshooting/printing_anomaly

Recommends swapping the 2 External Filament Feeders and seeing if the error follows the swap. In my case, it sure did! After the swap, I started getting the error on Extruder 3 (which upon swapping was using the same port as Extruder 2 was using before the swap). MY questions is…..what?! I thought the External ports were only used to load the filament? During printing (the prints were erroring mid-print) I figured the External Filament Sensors were just passive? I’ve emailed support for a new External Filament Feeder but I want to understand the error.

The feeders also contain filament tachometers. These are used while printing for filament tangle detection. (Filament not moving as fast as expected, caught on spool or possibly broken in the tube.)

It can be disabled. And/or you might submit a ticket with Snapmaker to determine if the unit is defective and get a new one.

Ah….that makes sense. I did submit a ticket. Its only a $20 part so not a big deal. I have done a few successful prints now, by just not using the affect unit. I’m not sure how to turn off the feature. I assume its on one of the printer menus.

Submitting a ticket, you’ll likely receive it much, much faster under warranty than waiting for a preordered one.
