Full Lightburn Control Guide

I haven’t gotten around to testing more on the rotary, but try changing the scan angle in lightburn to 90 degrees, it should made the rotary scan back and forth instead.

Hey Skreelink,

I installed your controller FW on my SM2.0 today. Now the machine does not start anymore. A Luban connection via Serial or WiFi is not possible. It comes the message “Device not ready”. I also have no access to the USB stick to install another FW there.

When I turn on the SM, the boot logo appears first. Then the message “Machine not responding” appears.

Do you have any idea what I can do.

VG Rötty

Did you remember to install the official 1.14.3 first before installing mine? When the power is on, is there a breathing light on the controller (the box with all the wires in it) that you can see through the USB port?

Try reseating all your connections. Such as turning the touchscreen connector around. For a USB connection, double-check your drivers.

As far as wifi in luban, I note that it can show for a second, then disappear, but it seems to be a graphical issue. I can usually click connect anyway.

Hey,

so I’ll start:

  1. yes the 1.14.3 was installed with all modules etc. and everything was up to date
  2. the controller is breathing
  3. i had removed all components from the controller and connected them again

As for the connection to Luban: Luban already finds the SM but breaks the connection again as the printer doesn’t seem to respond correctly.

Before the update I also had Wifi and USB access via Luban.

When I installed your FW, the update went through to 100%, but this screen stopped for over 5 minutes. So I turned off the printer at the end and turned it on again. And then it did not start again.

I suspect that the installation failed and I now somehow have to install a new firmware via root access or similar.

VG

Turning it off before it rebooted and completed might have corrupted your controller. It usually stays at the 100% screen for a bit (while it’s updating everything and booting in the background), then the machine eventually goes back to the homescreen and says update successful. You will have to contact snapmaker support for further assistance.

EDIT: Are there any logs on the USB drive now? I would assume if something goes wrong, the machine should dump a log onto the USB drive.

Also check the voltage of the PSU.

Hi,
it is certainly not a faulty connection of the hardware or a defective touchscreen. I suspect a failed update due to the premature interruption. But the question would be how long does it take to finish? I must have waited 5 minutes and it was still 100% in the touchscreen after 5 minutes.
VG

I’ve never timed it, so I’m not sure how long it actually takes. I wish I could be more helpful. :frowning: I don’t know if there’s a way to make it auto-flash an update on the USB or not. Like naming it a certain thing so the controller knows to flash it automatically on boot for recovery.

EDIT: Try turning on the machine with just the power and touchscreen connected, or with the linear modules, but not the toolhead, or other combinations. Also check to see if it’s written any new files to the USB drive. Also try turning it on without the USB inserted.

Maybe give this a try:

Hey,
thanks already once for the answers.

Important:

  1. The controller does NOT breathe! Sorry for the misinformation. But when I insert a USB stick, the display shows that a stick was detected and when I pull the stick, that it was removed.
  2. After I plugged the empty USB stick into the SM. An empty folder with the name “LOST.DIR” was created on the stick. However, this folder is empty when I open it in Windows.

Finally, I would like to ask if I did everything right when installing your FW.

When I tried to install your patch I did the following.

  1. I downloaded the .bin file, copied it to a USB stick and then put it in the SM. Then I accessed the stick via Filebrowser and clicked on the .bin file. Here came after 1-2 seconds the message that SM was stopped. Now I could click on continue and the SM has started normally. So an installation this way was not possible.
  2. then I loaded your file in Luban in the firmware tool (controller firmware) and created a corresponding new file .bin. This could then be installed with USB Stick but stopped at 100%.

Was that correct?

VG

Hallo @Skreelink
Feel like a Yedi with your guidance.
My Snapmaker now behaves and feels almost like a laser sword… .
Simply awsome. Just thank you!
Jork

Hi @Witz, did you install the FW patch and everything works?

If the controller is not breathing, then the controller is likely dead. You should check with support to see if you’re still within warranty, if not, you’ll have to purchase another one either from them (they do not have them on the store, you have to go through support) or from an authorized reseller, like 3dJake.

You shouldn’t have had to do anything in Luban with it. If the touchscreen had any crashes, rebooting the snapmaker would have been the first step and try again. The firmware tool in Luban might have corrupted it.

Ok, so just run your .bin file via USB stick on the Controller and it´s done? Alright. I tried a few times, but it always came the message “Snapmaker STOPPED” in the display. So I have to try it so many times until it works?

I hope I don’t ask too many questions :-). But I would like to use your patch very much. And if I now buy a new controller and try it again I have to be sure that I do everything right. Not that the then also broken again ;-).

VG

Yeah, just installing mine should be fine. It crashing is really odd, makes me wonder if there was an underlying issue already. The only time I’ve had it crash is if I do repeated large laser projects back to back (I assume it runs out of ram). Never during a firmware install.

Questions are how you learn! I just hope I have good answers for them.

Sidebar thought, I was getting ‘snapmaker stopped’ errors with a bad usb drive. Try another usb to see if it could be the usb.

Hey,
so your answers and your commitment here in the forum is remarkable! Absolutely super! I am glad that there are such people in forums.

But I ask again exactly how I have to install your patch:

  1. I copy your .BIN file to a USB stick
  2. I switch on the printer and wait until it is up and running
  3. I insert the USB-Stick into the printer/controller (message about detected USB drive appears)
  4. I click on file-button on the Touchscreen
  5. I klick on your .BIN file and start the installation with it
  6. I´m waiting during installation (What messages will I see?)
  7. ready!

So far correct?

  1. if after point 5. a stop message appears just try again, or use another USB stick.

Is this correct?

I know it sounds stupid, but if you answer these questions exactly, then nothing can go wrong.

Merry Christmas

I would suggest maybe trying a different USB first. However, this is how it should go.

1: Place the unzipped .bin onto USB.
2: Insert the USB into the machine powered OFF
3: Power on the machine.
4: Navigate to and run the .bin on the USB.
5: Below.

If it crashes, try with the official 1.14.3 firmware and see if it installs, then try mine again.

Hey,

I have already received a solution from support. It is as simple as I thought it would be. The support sent me a link to a “Firmware Update Tool.exe”. With this little program a direct USB connection to the controller is established and the original firmware can be uploaded to the controller. That’s it!

I hope that I could help you with it :-). So if something should go wrong with your FW, there is a solution… thank god!

…by the way, the reason I couldn’t load your FW was that the .bin file ends up in a folder again after unzipping. The folder name is also “Snapmaker_V4.4.19_20220919.bin”. So I had tried to run the folder and not the file on the SM. Now that I have corrected this, the update worked fine!

I’m glad you found a solution. It would be nice to have that tool, but the fact it isn’t on their support page or github that I’ve found bothers me. Since they claim open source, but not going to share tools to fix if something goes wrong.

Hi, me again. Sorry if I have to ask again.
I have now set up my SM so far. I installed your FW exactly as you described it. Now my 10W laser is only working at minimum power. All attempts to increase the power are ignored. It is surely something very simple again.
