Ok, the 2nd extruder has failed now

Extruder 2 also stops feeding filament after about 12 hours. It works again after unloading and reloading! Unfortunately, however, it printed with a hot end beforehand without any error message, so a resume is no longer possible.

It seems as though the extruder gears are no longer applying enough pressure to the filament, causing it to simply slip.

If you take the filament out, is it grinded?
Did you try to deactivate the auto feeder? (I’ve read this somewhere but unfortunately no U1 User..)

Nothing is crushed. At the end of the filament, you can only feel the gear marks, which you can snap off before reloading.

I have already considered whether this might be related to the very hot weather at the moment, since the failure apparently always occurs in the early to mid-afternoon.

I have already printed over 100 kg of the same PETG without problems before the issue first appeared on Extruder 1.

However, I can no longer cope with the failure of Extruder 2, since Extruder 4 is occupied with PLA for support layers. So I no longer have automatic spool changeover when running out.

There is a tension screw on the side of each toolhead, yours may need adjustment, if not could be the extrusion gears have pieces of filament stuck in them causing slippage, worst case the gears themselves are worn and need replacing

Can the gears be replaced if necessary, or do I need new toolheads? And if so, where can I get the gears?

P.S.: Are there any tutorials on adjusting the preload or cleaning the extruder gears?

Ask support about, they could offer you almost anything.

the gears are replaceable, but you have to dismantle the whole head, try going through this section on the wiki:

One more question: Extrudereinheit für Snapmaker U1 – Snapmaker EU

Are these upgraded units that might even prevent the dreadful air printing, or just spare parts?

I have heard about an updated design but honestly I don’t know much about the U1, please ask support about.

Is your issue fixed? Mine was caused by warped extruder plastic housing. Could you take a photo of the toolhead on the tension screw side?
