I have bitten the bullet and taken a chance by purchasing a brand new 10W laser assembly to fit into to my troublesome RAY. The main reason for this was I cannot get the same quality of output using the 40W unit as opposed to the 10W unit. This was covered in one of my previous posts.
I printed off the adapter plate and the Thickness Block, the plate fitted no problem using surplus screws from the A350.
Removed the control cable and the air pipe from the 40W unit, fitted the 10W unit and refitted the control cable.
Placed test piece of wood in the Ray
Set focal distance using the block
Opened Luban and modified settings to suit my project (started with similar settings as my A350)
Switched on Ray, this is where I noticed there was no spot marking the centre point.
Ran a boundary check, but again no markers to indicate the boundary
Using my eye I estimated that my project was within the boundary
Pressed start
Project finished - burn too deep and severe charring
Re-set project with faster workspeed and lower laser power
Repeated project and good results
Fasted than my A350 and with comparable results
SNAPMAKER - Is there a way of getting a spot generated to indicate the centre of the project and to indicate the boundary when checking, similar to the A350.
Please help on this as it is the only thing that detracts from using the 10W laser unit in the RAY machine.
I have yet to plug my 10W into my ray, but I do have the plate and calibration block ready.
I have asked your question to the Snapmaker team. I’ll let you know if there’s a reply soon.
I have plugged in and done some burning, with good results (after a few settings changed). The absence of the centre dot and dot when running boundary checks makes positioning project pretty hit and miss.
It’s something that needs sorting by Snapmaker, unless I’m missing something, but there seems to be a lack of information about software set-up
It might be something that has been overlooked, as the 10w was developed way before the Ray machine itself. The Ray was meant to be used with the 20w, 40w, and 2W. I can’t see why the software can’t be changed to produce a 1% power dot when using the 10W though.
I myself usually manually set up and run a boundary to see what is going where. So I’d like to see that dot too.
Replace all instances of s10 (the default low-light parameter for the 20W/40W modules in Luban) with s30. Save the changes and insert the SD card back into the Ray’s main controller.
Now, running the boundary check should display the laser spot.
