10w laser cutting silicone

Hi there,

I’m currently building a custom mechanical keyboard and need a silicone dampener(5mm). I did cast it from silicone and need to laser cut the keyboard layout.

I played around a bit but couldn’t get good results e.g. silicone starts heavily warping during laser pass.

Did anyone already cut silicone before and can you give me some recommendations?

Thanks and regards
Marco

Perhaps someone with more knowledge could chime in, but it sounds like the CNC is a safer bet (as long as your bit is narrow enough)?

NC milling can not handle flexible materials.

that’s what I thought…it would bulge up.

What settings do you use?
I would guess going as fast as possible but with multiple passes would be a good approach - If you have a air assist or a fan you can direct to the material you properly can improve the result even more
