V1.0.1

Nov 26, 2024

Snapmaker Orca V1.0.1 Beta is based on OrcaSlicer V2.2.0 Beta and and is designed to enhance the Snapmaker user experience. This version features updated machine parameters to improve compatibility and support for IDEX and dual extruder machines, as well as fixes for issues in the OrcaSlicer V2.2.0 Beta. We recommend this version for Snapmaker users.

New Features

  • Enabling Orca to transfer G-code via Wi-Fi
Luban is the transfer station enabling Orca to communicate with your machine through the OctoPrint protocol (protocol: Octo/Kilpper; port: 5000). When you have connected your machine to Luban via a Wi-Fi network, you can transfer the G-code generated by Orca via Wi-Fi and start printing.

  • Users can register and log in to the Snapmaker User Center, which currently offers limited features but will expand next year.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed excessive prime tower volume during multimaterial printing on Snapmaker Artisan, 2.0, J1, J1s, and other IDEX/dual extruder machines by:

    • Adjusting the default settings of:

      • Width: 60mm

      • Prime volume: 45mm³

      • Disabled the pre-fill tower by default.

      • This issue has been submitted to OrcaSlicer by the Snapmaker team and is no longer present in OrcaSlicer V2.2.0 Official Release.

    • Avoiding oversized prime towers that exceed the build plate dimensions.

    • Reducing the prime tower volume to enhance printing efficiency and ensure print quality.

  • Fixed printhead collisions on Snapmaker J1/J1s during printing.

  • Fixed a bug in creating custom material profiles.

  • Addressed inconsistencies with different nozzle sizes using the same material.

  • Fixed the unresponsive “Select All” and “Clear All” buttons on the Printer Selection page.

  • Fixed the Start G-code for the Snapmaker Artisan, avoiding the risk of the extruder scraping against the frame clamp.

Improvements

  • Updated the software branding to Snapmaker Orca, including a new icon and name.

  • Defaulted Snapmaker brand selections to the top for machine, material, and custom material choices for easier access.

Important Update for Users of the Development Version

  • If you previously installed the development version of Snapmaker Orca, be sure to uninstall it first before downloading and installing the latest beta version.

Will Snapmaker Orca stay updated with the mainstream Orca?

  • Yes, Snapmaker Orca Beta incorporates updates from Orca Slicer V2.2.0 Beta and will be regularly iterated to align with updates from the mainstream Orca Slicer stable version. In the event of conflicting settings, we will select the better option based on our internal testing. Default profiles may differ.

What about merging back and contributing?

  • We will merge our changes back into the mainstream Orca Slicer, though we cannot guarantee acceptance. We will maintain close communication with the software team to quickly share updates with the community and ensure no important inputs are missed. Here are examples of submitted optimizations: Pull requests · SoftFever/OrcaSlicer · GitHub

Why create Snapmaker Orca?

  • While Luban is the go-to for 3-in-1 beginners, Snapmaker Orca Beta caters to users seeking advanced 3D printing capabilities. As an alternative to Luban and Orca Slicer, Snapmaker Orca Beta allows our team greater flexibility for adding features and enhancements specifically tailored for Snapmaker machines. Like the mainstream Orca Slicer, it also supports a wide range of third-party printers, allowing you to manage multiple machines through a single interface.
