ive achieved everything i want from my printer now. i have full file system access, my preferred homescreen app, my preferred file browser app, camera streaming, and full remote control via vnc. im able to print toxic materials in another room and monitor my machine.
how to is coming in the following two post replies.
My current j1s setup. Or as I like to call it âalmost perfectionâ.
Apps on the android screen:
-droidvnc-ng from fdroid app store â allows remote control from my phone or computer
-USB Camera from aurora app store â streams my logitech c720 to my phone or pc. I watch either on vlc or webbrowser. VLC performs better. I stream 800x600 resolution to save bandwidth and cpu cycles.
-smart launcher 3 classic from aurora app store â intuitive and clean home screen app. Has a feature that allows you to double tap the home screen to drop down the notification bar
-mull privacy browser from fdroid app store. Sometimes we need to browse the net from our printer.
-tracker control from fdroid â shows me all attempted outgoing connections and allows me to block any. Also blocks ads on apps.
-virtualsoftkeys from fdroid â gives me the missing 3 button navigation bar. I set it to 1 second autohide. Its able to be activated by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. I have the detection zone set higher because im less precise when using the vnc mouse cursor.
-sd maid from aurora, with the limited amount of space we have i must be vigilant about cleaning logfiles and the remnants of old app installs among other things.
Devices connected to my printer:
-inland usb hub with full size sd card reader
-logitech c720 webcam with fisheye lens. And 3d printed mount and front plate for the lens to screw into
-generic smartphone 3 lens kit from amazon
-of course the cable that connects the back usb port to the touch screen via my usb hub. I donât often use ocotprint on that anymore but its still installed incase I want it for some reason.
Software used on pc:
-tigerVNC client. This seems to be the linux version of tight vnc. Its the best client ive used so far and is my preference. You can also use the vnc from your web browser using the ânoVNCâ plugin included with the vnc server droidvnc-ng
-vlc media player. Gives the best quality video stream over watching the camera over vnc or streaming it to a web browser.
With this setup im fully able to control noxious smelling hips and abs prints from another room, and watch the print with only a slight delay, maybe 1-2 seconds or so. The options that are unlocked on our printers are superior to the app options for remote control offered by many printer companies.
In the future I will consider remote control and watching of my printer from across the internet using ssh tunneling or running a home VNC server.
I was considering putting a more concise step by step guide to achieve my exact setup, but I believe that the users of this forum are technologically advanced enough to already know how. If anyone feels they have need for a guide like this from me I would gladly provide one here upon request.
correct. i factory reset from android and gained almost 3 gb of space. this broke j1/fabscrren. when i got my new screen i backed up the j1 apk and installed it on my old screen. it works fine now. the bin file was useless.
