Hi all, new user 2 weeks in. I suspect I’m not the first person to join because I have an issue. LoL
I am using a SM U1 and have added cut text to a simple model, I want to pain the text a different color, but when I go to the color painting tab the text disappears from the model. I know it’s there because I can print the model without painting and the text is there with no issue. I saved the model with the text, then brought it back into the slicer and tried again, but no joy.
I’m sure I’m doing something wrong, but if someone could steer me to the correct operation, I would be grateful.
Thanks, when I hovered on that icon, it said “upload” so I thought that would just send the reply.

So, a hazard for noobies in any endeavor is there are always complications,. It appears uploading 3mf’s isn’t allowed here and I don’t have an stl version. All the converters I tried don’t keep the text cuts, and SM orcas throws an error when I attempt to export as an stl
I will try to duplicate project tomorrow and the upload it, but I have obligations for the rest of the day.
My sincere thanks to everyone trying to help, I hope you have enough patience to pick up tomorrow.
Is this what you are trying to do? I changed the settings within the text itself - you can have it raised above the surface or flat as in the example I’ve attached - clicking on the text brings up the options to change type/depth/raised etc etc
The easiest way I colour text is to raise it up, colour it as its an easy shape with defined edges, then sink it back down to where I want it, this though might not be the correct/easiest way!
Morning, yes you have ended exactly where I wanted to be. What change did you make so that the text doesn’t disappear when you click on the color painting tab?
Also the only way I know to select the text is from the object tab then right clicking on the text and picking edit text. Is this the correct way to do it?
Mostly just my gratitude for you assistance, thanks again
So, looks like I sort of answered my own questions. I was playing around your advise about it being easier to color raised text, so i did raise it and found I could switch to color paint without losing the text. I colored it the way I wanted, then picked edit text for each object. I was able to change it back to cut text and successfully print the model.
I’ve had the same issue with flush text. The text is there it’s just not rendering so one can see it.
Choose the color you want the text
Click the bucket fill icon
Hover in a spot where a letter should appear, its outline will show, right click the letter will change to the desired color & you’ll be able to see it.
I can’t get that to work, I follow the steps you listed but hovering doesn’t maker the text visible. When I left click over the model the entire surface changes to the color I picked.
This model is a freebie I grabbed from one of the websites, I just added the text. I’m starting to believe there’s something wonky in the code, I’m going to create a new model from scratch and see if that makes a difference.
So, I did as I planned. I created a simple rectangular block in fusion, exported it as a 3mf that I opened in SM orca.
I got the same results as my first model, text placed as a join remained visible when I when to the color paint button, but text placed as a cut disappeared when paint was selected.
I can live with the work-around of editing the text after painting, so I’m just going to call it a bug and move no to some totally different errors to make. LoL
