Complete Toolheads without Stainless Steel Nozzle

Hi @Zoe_M

I thought I’d ask this in here so people that /might/ be interested could see the answer rather than a support ticket…

I wouldn’t mind having a complete toolhead spare ready to Hot Swap for nozzle changes or say blob of death - Currently the only option for a complete toolhead comes with a standard nozzle, which I don’t need anymore of those so wondering if SM have considered offering the toolhead with either a hardened steel nozzle or the complete unit bare of nozzle for me to fit as I choose please?

Doesn’t make sense to sell a tool head with a stainless steel nozzle that most people won’t use. I’d much rather buy a tool head with a hardened steel nozzle even if it cost a little bit more.

That’s definitely something they should consider. That got me thinking though with the hot swap. I want to try using PETG and am worried about any leftover in the nozzle when i go back to PLA. Could i basically just have an extra toolhead that’s only PETG and say just swap head 4 out whenever i want to use it? Then swap it back out when i go back to PLA. would that mess up calibrations or anything?

As long as the nozzle size is he same, i.e. like 0.4 mm, it does not matter. You can install a hardened steel nozzle in TH4 and leave the others with stainless steel.

Glad I’m not the only one thinking about this then :+1:t3:

I’d also like SM to offer the toolhead without nozzles. That way, you could individually equip it with separately purchased nozzles for quick nozzle changes.

That is a good idea, didn’t think of that. That would be the way to go.

Does this count as a feature request?

It would be so simple for Snapmaker to offer different purchase options in the shop for the print head:

  • without nozzle

  • with 0.2mm Hardsteel nozzle

  • with 0.4mm nozzle …

Why can’t this be implemented?

That would require a huge inventory. It is more practical to have an option for the unpopulated head and let the user fit their own.

Saw a good proposal yesterday in FB group. Nobody wants to use the s/s nozzles.

So why not sell the parts without any nozzle at all and let the user decide what she/he wants to add.

Make the parts cheaper

Hi, this is a very sharp observation and it definitely reflects a real need within the community :+1: .

While first-time U1 buyers may expect an “out-of-the-box” experience, and offering a nozzle‑free or nozzle‑optional version could add extra complexity to their purchase decision.

Still, I think this idea is worth further discussion, and I’ll forward it to the relevant team. They might evaluate the feasibility of offering “no‑nozzle kits” or “customizable nozzle options” internally, taking into account factors such as pricing, inventory management, and the overall user experience for newcomers. If there are any pilot plans in the future, we’ll make sure to share them with the community first.

Supply of spare toolheads without nozzles pre-installed has been suggested (see next post).

I already posted this?

:open_mouth: somehow I missed this post. I’ll make it as a feature request and merge these two topics together.

I’ll forgive you just this once

Zoe, I don’t think that he meant selling the printer & letting the user decide which nozzle they want. I believe he was referring to purchasing replacement tool heads without a nozzle. Then the purchaser could order which ever type & size nozzle the wanted.

I would even suggest getting rid of the stainless steel nozzles & adding the additional cost to the printer. In reality right now I’ve spent $899 for my U1 because I purchased hardened steel nozzles for it.
