My "FullSpectrum" printing deep dive video

Alternating color layers to print more than 4 colors using only 4 spools! The story of FullSpectrum community fork of Snapmaker Orca along with my initial stress testing and suggested tips for getting better or faster results.

It’s a long one! If you know the story, you might jump to the end for final prints (Chapter 4.1) and summary of my initial printing suggestions (Chapter 5).

Great job done by the FullSpectrum team

Loved your video. Will the new orca work with a J1S?

Oh! That’s actually a great question @Poky1 ! I haven’t tried Snorca on my J1s, but it very well might. It’s just commanding the tool to alternate when slicing.

If you test it, would you let us know how it goes?

Also, for people trying out the FullSpectrum community fork of Snorca, I’ve uploaded the simple wedge test print to Printables:

I tried multicolor on my J1S and couldn’tget the 2nd nozzle to run. Slicer just made 1 color. Maybe a setting I didn’t see but no luck so far.

Yeah. That makes me a little sad…

I’ll have to try it and check the gcode. I half expected this to “just work.”

But only half. :smiling_face_with_tear:

Yes. Disappointing.
Please let me know if you find a hack to make it work.

I tried the pteg cables I have on hand, but none could achieve the desired effect due to insufficient or no light transmission. I am hoping for a ready-to-use list of suitable cables to choose from.

Part 2! Coming soon, @kingwap

Though it’s hard to guarantee any spool bought will be exactly the same. They just don’t usually control well for TD.

Part 2 of the deep dive into print testing FullSpectrum. This time a tighter recap of suggestions, our little color study and testing of various filaments. Along the way doing a couple more example prints with tips, and wrap up with a few highlights from the community and answer a couple of questions.

Make generous use of chapter breaks if you like, as I vow this is the last time I drop a video this long, oof!

Also, if you want a Cliff’s Notes version of all this, YGK3D’s video on this dropped yesterday and does an excellent overview, imho!
