Not at all! Well, judging by the shape of the new caps, I think they will be delivered with the hood, and there will no longer be a cap on the machine during future deliveries. That’s how I see it unfolding. Snapmaker will have to confirm or deny! Anyway, thanks to them for listening to users’ concerns about this issue.
Hi, welcome to the forum. Switching over to the revised mold takes time. Orders placed right now will still be shipped with the original‑design top cover.
Best regards.
I just read through the whole thread — wow, what a mess ![]()
My top cover just arrived, and now I’m wondering whether I should even try installing it first… or just start complaining right away :))
upd.
Yep, same problem here. No words…
Sorry, just to clarify — is this the official solution to the problem, or only a temporary workaround?
I’m honestly struggling to understand how it can be considered acceptable to sell a top cover that does not fit or work as intended, and then expect customers to print additional parts themselves in order to make it function properly.
Will there be a proper revised hardware solution later on?
And for customers who already received the affected version, will it be possible to request the necessary replacement/upgraded parts from Snapmaker instead of having to print the fix ourselves?
I literally just ordered few days ago and im having buyers remorse now
Depending on the laws of your country as too your options, here in the UK if something isn’t fit for purpose you can get a full refund, also have 14 days to change your mind after receiving it but the first option gets your postage back and the seller has to pay for return postage
Personally I think this looks really embarrassing on SM, I would certainly think long and hard before backing anything else they bring to market.
I think that’s too extreme. Yes it’s a fault which we might conclude should have been caught during beta trials, but if self-printed replacement screw covers provide a solution that seems simple enough and by definition users are in a position to make that amendment (given a little bit of TPU filament).
I’m not clear whether Snapmaker intend to modify the top cover itself or simply provide modified screw covers – it sounds like the former but in my opinion that would be the wrong way to go if replacement screw covers are an adequate solution. Modifying the top cover would result in different versions being out in the wild.
Replacement screw covers would also be simple to provide to existing purchasers, as good PR.
No need, IMO (but I have yet to receive mine and inspect the problem myself).
In my opinion, if the replacement top screw covers solve the problem, they should be the official solution and Snapmaker should not fiddle with the top cover mould. That way everyone has the same thing, not different versions.
I agree, although issuing a print file to owners who (by definition) have the means to print it does not seem all that unreasonable – as an interim measure. Snapmaker does have the ultimate responsibility to make good.
If by “proper revised hardware” you mean a revised moulding for the top cover, I am less in favour of that. There have been objections raised that extending the posts exposes them to stress if they extend beyond the top cover rim, and it seems unnecessary to do that if the replacement top screw covers do the job. A new version of the top cover also means there being different versions, and need for version control.
I believe that should be the case, for good PR and to honour consumer rights to a purchase that is fit for purpose.
This isn’t some five quid part, its £150 - As I see it they have 3 options, remould and do a free replacement or discount to keep the faulty version.
Produce the replacement part themselves and post out FOC to all purchases
Offer a code for a free roll of SM TPU for people to print themselves
Very rarely do items stay as V1.0 upgrades happen all the time
At the very least! this is the second major issue with the U1 caused by SM themselves. Personally I think they have relied too heavily on feedback from a select few…
I printed them in PLA and it fits like a glove now. No complaint here!
We shouldn’t have to print anything… Period full stop. We paid $150.00 for this thing and I ordered mine during the initial Kickstarter launch, so I’ve been waiting awhile…
I personally want a coupon for the Snapmaker store due nothing but inconvenience and don’t think its too much to ask for… That cover issue SHOULD have easily been caught by QC… Ya’ll know my solution… I removed the foam entirely and it fits like a glove.
Agreed. The bottom lip needs to be extended if we’re not relying on the posts for anything. The corner radiuses aren’t even close to the machine radiuses and they need to put some kind of chamfer on the fan housings. This is a complete remold to make a proper saleable product. Plus, now my metal discs are pulling out of my window which should be an easy fix with some super glue but come on!! What will be the next thing?
@akd @Cylonmode and @Darik
Hi, I sincerely appreciate your concern and feedback. It is indeed frustrating to encounter this issue after such a long wait for the top cover.
The solution provided in the Wiki serves as a temporary workaround. However, the final mold‑revision optimization will take considerable time given required modifications and validation work. We take full ownership of this issue. Our internal team is still discussing feasible options for further remedial action. In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our technical support if you have any other concerns or requests. They will assess your specific situation and offer corresponding solutions.
Thank you Zoe_M for this feedback!
I already contacted support, and the information I received is different from what you’re saying here.
According to support, the official solution is the Wiki page and printing these additional parts yourself.
And as a gesture of GOODWILL, they offered me a $10 refund.
Hi, thanks for the update. I’ll check whether anything was unclear during the information hand‑off. Quick follow‑up: when you mention “different”, do you mean our support did not emphasize that the wiki guide of printing Top Cover Hood Seating Extenders is only a temporary solution, rather than the final official fix?
Best regards,
I printed these in PLA and they don’t seem to work.
Is there a requirement here to print in TPU?
Yes, TPU only!
Actually, the PLA extensions work fine.
I re-read what Zoe sent and saw that there is a ‘front and back’ to these (little dots). Following that with my easy PLA parts is working pretty well now.
I believe an earlier poster stated he used PLA successfully, and he was right.
I will look for a more permanent solution from Snapmaker, but I’m good with this mod.
