I’m thinking I’ll put something thinner in there rather than ditch it completely. There was some mention about the U1 corners needing thicker material, but that’s only the white sides and not the actual top - the top is flat and the seat of the top cover is flat, so it doesn’t need much (but I would like some). Black craft foam might do it.
What’s pleasing about this story, despite the fact that some people got carried away at one point, is that the community of users of this wonderful machine, with Snapmaker’s help, managed to find the right things to do to move forward! It’s simply great to find solutions in good spirits and through dialogue! Thanks to everyone!
I agree. I’m not sure how many people purchased their top cover as a finished product, but certainly those who supported it on Kickstarter (eg me) have little to complain about. Just receiving one is a win! We (the community) have helped shape the solution so that future purchasers are not troubled in the same way. It’s just a shame the problem was not properly solved during beta.
Any detractors out there need to realise that at least we have some influence over developments. One of the reasons I decided to risk my money on Kickstarter was that this forum exists and it has an active community. In my opinion, FDM printing is a perpetual work-in-progress, and any attempt to lock users out of the process is fool-hardy.
It is conventional wisdom that PLA in particular is best suited to open rather than enclosed printers, but that does not take enclosed printers with ventilation into account!
I’ve found that manually setting the top cover exhaust fan to 60% maintains a steady 30ºC chamber temperature with an 80ºC bed at 20ºC ambient.
