From what I recall, the “revised mould” is to extend the ‘legs’ that fit into the top screw covers, and that said legs require reinforcement in that case so they don’t just snap off, as they would exceed the overall dimensions of the top cover and therefore hit the ground first.

Personally, I don’t think that’s a “solution” I would go for, even if offered. Unless there are other, more substantial, alterations to address other issues, I don’t see the point.

In any case, I don’t see that Snapmaker have any responsibility to replace the top covers, all they need to do is provide a solution to each customer’s specific concerns, where those concerns are with the advertised expectations of the product.

So far as I can see (and I have not had a chance to test it yet), replacement screw covers will be sufficient to deal with the fitting problem, so provision of replacement screw covers should be all Snapmaker has to be responsible for. If people are prepared to print their own, all well and good, but ideally they would be of similar material and quality as the existing screw covers.

I do not understand why Snapmaker appear to be pursuing any other course of action.

Hi @Zoe_M FYI; I received my top cover today and have confirmed the same issue as described in this thread.

Notably, it appears that the radius for the corners of the top cover is incorrect, resulting in the top cover “cutting the corner”.

I’ve tried to capture it in-situ, and also traced both the top cover outer edge and the printer outer edge.

I traced both corners of the printer to provide two references, and deliberately traced one closer to the line for the top cover.

It becomes abundantly clear that the corner shape is incorrect relative to the corner shape of the printer.

This incorrect shaping means that the 5mm foam compresses far more in the corner than it does along the side, exacerbating the back pressure issue from the foam, because instead of an even distribution on a lot of foam, it’s a high pressure in the corners and a lower pressure elsewhere.

Whatever changes may be getting made to the top cover model, someone needs to validate the radius used for the corners.

**Between 11:59 and 12:23 UTC on 24 September, after my post** #123, **Zoe\_M edited eight of her earlier posts:** #38, #73, #76, #82, #94, #97, #116 and #122.

The edit history is public (click the pencil on each post). The current text of these posts no longer contains the statements I quoted in #123.

Removed:

- #38: the mold proposal (“extending the height of the four corner posts”) and “a high-priority item on our roadmap”.
- #73: “we have opened a project to revise the top-cover mold” and the 3mm to 5mm foam explanation. Replaced with “within the normal range of assembly tolerances”.
- #76, #94: “We take full ownership of this issue” and “temporary workaround”.
- #82: “Orders placed right now will still be shipped with the original-design top cover.”
- #97: “official” in “the final official fix”.
- #116: “structural adaptation imperfections on our end”, “full responsibility”, “not an official formal fix”, “formal rectification plan”, and the mention of replacement parts and returns. Replaced with “within the normal range of assembly tolerances”.
- #122: “manufactured before the mold was revised”.

The new text of #73 and #116 matches the wording of the support email I received today after my reply to this thread (2026-09-24). I have archived the thread including the revision history.

Questions for @Zoe_M:

1. Is the current text of these posts Snapmaker’s position, replacing the earlier statements?
2. If so, could you post a dated note listing which statements are withdrawn? Owners who wrote to support after #116 asked for returns, replacement parts and the mold fix on the basis of those statements.

My two questions in #123 are still open:

> [@tomini](#):
>
> 1. Which position applies to owners of the original-design cover: normal tolerance, or a defect that the mold revision will fix?
> 2. Once the revised mold is in production, will these owners get a revised cover at no cost, and can support note that on the ticket?

~~Hi, thank you for pointing out the inconsistency in my previous replies.~~

~~I sincerely apologize for my earlier inaccurate understanding of the situation, which led to replies that did not match the actual circumstances and caused confusion. So I updated the previous comments.~~

~~I’ve verified this matter with the relevant team, and the unified and accurate response is as follows:
The mounting posts underneath the Top Cover may not remain fully seated in the silicone pads after installation. This is within the normal range of assembly tolerances and does not affect the installation, sealing performance, or normal use of the Top Cover.~~

That’s a decidedly disquieting set of edits and drastically changes the tone of this thread.

I think I’ll need to look at requesting a full refund, given that pretty much all references to a rework are now gone, and from my perspective this cover is not actually correctly engineered to fit this printer.

The corner radius is incorrect, the post lengths are incorrect and the result is that the overall fit is incorrect.

After a year of waiting; “disappointed” and “frustrated” would be spectacular understatements.

@Zoe_M as per my comment above, with the images showing the questionable radius of the corners, this is a view showing the effect it has on the foam under slight compression.

You can see that the corner compresses far more, because it is fully on top of the printer chassis, while the sections at the front and sides are partly on top of the chassis and partly to the side, resulting in less compression.

A compound result of this and the post fitment issue is that it increases the chance of the hard plastics of the cover and the printer knocking together, rather than being correctly damped by the foam.

Wow, that really is bad if it’s by design.
I am wondering though if it’s a result of shrinkage after coming out of the mold. It might be possible to tell by looking at the draft angle as it passes around the corner and checking if the draft angle has been pulled in by shrinkage.

@Zoe_M thank you for the answer. Three points are still open.

1. Which statements were inaccurate? The removed text includes: the mold revision project (#38, #73), the foam going from 3mm to 5mm after the beta (#73), “full responsibility” (#94, #116), the invitation to request returns and replacement parts (#116), and new orders shipping the original design (#82).
2. Does a mold revision project exist? If so, when, and will owners of the original-design cover get a revised cover at no cost? If not, please say so in a dated post.
3. Could you post a dated note in this thread listing the withdrawn statements? An edited post shows only a small pencil icon. Owners who wrote to support or made purchase decisions based on the earlier text have no way to tell.

Hello everyone, I feel uneasy about Snapmaker. I was the one who started the first post explaining that I had a problem with the fit of the upper cover on my U1. I quickly modeled a support to fix the issue, and some of you have printed this solution. I even have people who printed these 4 parts in PLA instead of TPU as I recommended, and it works. Since then, Snapmaker has also uploaded suitable parts. I am surprised that there is now controversy around this topic, namely whether it is Snapmaker’s fault or not. Some are asking for a refund, others want a corrected version for sure. Everyone has their own reasons, right or wrong, and I am not here to judge. On my side, it works with my modification; the cover no longer moves and does not risk slipping during use of the U1. I consider it settled. It’s not rocket science to print something to “improve” it; in fact, that’s one of the things you do with your printer. Others might say the product is not fully refined! These are growing pains, and I remind you that it was originally a Kickstarter campaign, with all the defects that entails. Moreover, the cover existed; it could easily never have seen the light of day. For me, this matter is closed. The cover is functional, end of story! Have a wonderful end of the day, everyone. My best regards to all the Snapmaker staff! I will test the French version of the U1’s firmware V2. Stéphane

When I received the cover, I installed it and never experienced any problem.

Only when I read this post, I downloaded the small file from MAGNAC, just to be save, but still, did not experience any problem. Anyhow. Since Snapmaker has delivered their own version of additional tool to secure the cover, subject should now be considered closed.

Just wanted to chime in adding that my cover also does not fit the rubber mounts. It does however fit over the top of the unit, barely.

I would simply like to suggest to the administrators—and to all of us—that we split this topic into two parts:
1./ Legal and theoretical questions regarding general quality, warranty, and defective performance;
2./ And technical questions regarding the printing process itself—e.g., printing PLA in an enclosed chamber, overheating, control systems, etc.

The topic is starting to become difficult to follow—at least for me.
